There are few people you meet in life who could truly be described as ‘inspirational’ but Frankie Hutchinson is definitely one of them!

What a year! What a woman!

– who was born on 23 September – Frankie lost her beloved grandfather, bought a house – and moved - and was named Woman of the Year by Local Women magazine! Phew! As with everything else that life has

T

thrown at her, however, this 24-year-old has taken everything in her stride. ‘It’s definitely been one heck of a year,’

Frankie laughs, as she cuddles Oliver in the living room of her comfortable Holywood home. ‘For a start, I still can’t believe that I’m

even a mum! Te doctors had told me that I had polycystic ovaries, so it was highly unlikely that I would ever get pregnant. I’d only ever had one period when I was 17, so it was obvious that something wasn’t right with my hormones. ‘In January of this year, my grandfather,

who I’d cared for over the last three years, passed away. My dad had died while my mum was pregnant with me, so my grandfather had been like a dad to me. I was totally devastated. By the week aſter he died

I wasn’t sleeping with pure grief so I went to the doctor and said ‘I’m sick and tired’. I couldn’t believe it when he suggested a pregnancy test. It had never occurred to me, but that’s what it turned out to be. Te fact that I found out I was pregnant just a week aſter my grandfather died was, I feel, a little bizarre but totally comforting.’ In July, Frankie and her partner of seven

years, Chris, bought their first home and moved into it when Frankie was eight months pregnant! ‘Even Chris said when we were moving

that this was absolutely ridiculous,’ Frankie says. ‘I mean, there I was at eight months pregnant, surrounded by boxes and removal men. It was challenging but hey, that’s life.’

‘Challenging’ is certainly a brilliant word

to describe Frankie’s life. When you hear what she has gone

through over the past two decades, you can only wonder at her strength of courage and resilience. At the age of only two, one of Frankie’s

Christmas presents was a Cinderella pyjama set which comprised a dress and shorts. As she was playing with her new toy kitchen set close to the huge fire guard in her living room, a spark leapt out of the fire and ignited Frankie’s pyjamas. ‘I don’t really remember the incident,

Frankie tells me, ‘but my mum, who was desperately trying to put the flames out, told me that every time she got one flame out,

here’s no doubt that this has been some year for part-time model and former Miss Ulster Grand Prix, Frankie Hutchinson!

On top of becoming mum to baby Oliver
