at John Driggs Company. Kuentz started by attending workshops and joined the board in the mid-1990s. Kuentz said that the MMTA staff, led by Louis Campion, has done an “absolutely wonderful” job. “We’re very proud of what MMTA has done in Annapolis, and we’re doing well with membership, too.”
At the end of the association’s fiscal year in June, MMTA had 1,119 members, an increase of almost 300 new members in just a few years and placing it in the top five state associations in the country. Kuentz played a large role in that increase, leading the board in the number of new members personally recruited. One of Kuentz’s focuses this year will be not only to continue to recruit new members but also to ensure that the association retains them so MMTA will continue to develop a very solid base of membership. With Campion and the other members of the board he’ll also be exploring ways to diversify and grow the association’s revenue. Careful financial management enabled MMTA to purchase its new headquarters suite on Bendix Road as well as the adjacent one, which will serve as an income property. Expanding revenue sources so that MMTA is not too dependent on any one program will enable the association to continue to maintain its low dues structure, thereby providing exceptional value to its members. With his long years of service
to MMTA, Kuentz is aware that unexpected issues can arise at any time. But he doesn’t foresee any major problems during the coming year. “My thought this year is to keep the association on an even keel,” Kuentz said. “We’re going the way we need to be going, and we want to keep going that way.”
