By December 2017 companies operating commercial motor vehicles are expected to comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s electronic logging device (ELD) rule.1


That may seem like a


long time from now, but if your drivers are still using paper logs, you may need this time to research options, purchase and install a system, and train your employees.


WHAT ARE ELDs? Electronic logging devices are in-cab


recording systems that track the time drivers spend performing non-driving tasks and resting. They must be recognized by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration as certified devices.


WHO IS IMPACTED? The ELD mandate applies to most


commercial vehicle drivers who operate in interstate commerce and routinely complete daily logs. Many states are expected to adopt similar requirements.
