Do’s and Don’ts in Mexico: Remember that Baja Military Checkpoints are Mexico’s effort to control illegal
activities. Here is a list of the DO’S and DON’TS when traveling in Mexico.
1. DO be nice and friendly and smile! 2. Be aware that anything related to a gun is illegal in Mexico and you could lose your vehicle and be arrested if caught with any type of these items.
3. DON’T drink the water or use the ice. 4. Watch the salads outside big hotels; they normally wash them with the regular water.
5. According to my doctor, one Pepto-Bismol tab per day can help fight Montezuma’s revenge.
6. DON’T underestimate the Peppers or Chiles as they’re extra hot and can hurt! 7. DON’T expect everyone to speak English, and DON’T EVER SAY Estupido as in Mexico as it means more than stupid!
8. DON’T expect service standards to be just like back home and don’t expect the waiter to bring you the bill. Tipping in Mexico starts at 10%.
9. DON’T miss the local shopping specials and don’t take the first price offered; haggle friendly. DO carry small bills of both dollars and pesos.
10. DON’T hail a taxi in all the large cities, especially in Mexico City. Hotels screen taxies so go to any hotel to get the ride.
11. Watch you’re drinking. Tequila in Mexico has a lower octane level so don’t fall for those tourist tequila shots, and stay away from drugs.
12. If you fill a legal medical prescription at a pharmacy in Mexico, it has to be your prescription and you can only purchase a 30-day supply. Tey might try to sell you more but it is illegal.
13. Watch out for the Timeshare Scams. 14. DON’T expect to find toilet seats outside of tourist areas. 15. DO be careful of the hot sun on day one, and DON’T over-plan your vacation. E.B. ADAIR JR.

TWO DRIVING TIPS FROM GO CANADA: GOOD VISION IN A DOWNPOUR
Tis method was given to me by a Police friend, who had experienced and con-
firmed it. It is useful, even driving at night and is one method used by Canadian Military Drivers for years. Most of the motorists would turn on HIGH or FASTEST SPEED of the wipers
during heavy downpour, yet the visibility in front of the windshield is still bad. In the event you face such a situation, just try your SUNGLASSES (any model
will do), and miracle! All of a sudden, your visibility in front of your windshield is perfectly clear, as if there is no rain. Yup, it’s true.
NO CRUISE CONTROL IN THE RAIN: A 36-year-old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car. It was
raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydroplane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned! The OPP Officer told her that if the cruise control is on when your car begins to
hydroplane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed, making you take off like an airplane. She told the OPP Officer that was exactly what had occurred. NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.
