Eliminating Vast Mosquito Breeding Areas

M them. Pesticides
osquitoes are a nuisance to many Florida residents. Millions of dollars are spent annually trying to control are sprayed vigorously
by municipalities and communities to reduce mosquito populations. However, an effective, alternative method is often overlooked or underutilized. A properly designed aeration system and/or fountains can greatly reduce mosquito populations.
Good to know…..
Mosquitoes require stagnant water during a portion of their life cycle. During this stage the mosquito larvae syphon at the water surface. Their bodies are underwater; however they require air to survive. Creating water movement with an aeration system or fountain breaks the tension, causing the larvae to sink and drown.
Aeration and fountains will not eliminate all mosquitos. However, they are an excellent tool for an integrated mosquito control program. ◆
