Musto relocates to St Katharine Docks
S
ince Camper & Nicholsons Marinas announced the refurbishment of St Katharine Docks in April, there has been
an increased level of activity down at the marina. As custodians and owners of the
wider St Katharine Docks estate, Blackstone has now secured the world’s leading offshore sailing apparel brand as a new tenant. Musto will occupy part of the first floor of the International House building, which will become its corporate headquarters and showroom for the rapidly expanding range of high performance sailing, equestrian and sports apparel.
Danny Egan, Senior Portfolio
Manager, Blackstone Property Management, said: “As a prominent global brand in sailing, Musto represents a perfect fit for the docks”. Peter Smith, CEO of Musto,
commented: “As a great British sailing brand, we are delighted to move to St Katharine Docks, which is the ideal location to promote Musto’s brand values and product range, as well as ensuring that we are readily accessible to our key stakeholders. The relocation of our headquarters and showroom to International House has provided us with the perfect setting to showcase our products.” This development fits perfectly
with Blackstone’s wider vision to capitalise on St Katharine Docks’ unique waterside location and to oversee its evolution as one of the capital’s most vibrant business, retail and leisure destinations. With the renovation of the marina
well under way and the Central Basin almost complete, yacht owners can now begin to understand what the whole site will feel like in a few months’ time. By early 2017, it will be completely renovated and restored, with new pontoons, new electrical systems and utilities. The marina will also have a completely new layout with more high-quality berths available.
New hoist dock on the Hamble
Work has begun on a replacement 80 ton boat hoist dock at the iconic boatyard and marina operated by Hamble Yacht Services (HYS) in England. Following a competitive tender process involving a number of specialist marine construction companies, Walcon Marine was chosen for this sizeable contract. The new lifting dock represents a further major investment into the facilities upgrade programme that has been carried out by the new owners who took over the site last year. Robert Bicket of HYS comments
“A decision was taken to invest in construction of a complete new dock rather than refurbish the old one. Our hoist operations are core to the services provided by HYS
and by ensuring that our facilities are completely up to date we are securing our position as the leading site for lifting and storage of large and small vessels.”
MARINA EURO-REPORT • SEPTEMBER 2016
Work will begin in December 2016 and is expected to take ten weeks, during which time lifting and launching will continue, albeit on a restricted basis.
Awards for MDL marinas
Europe’s largest marina operator, MDL Marinas, has announced that Mercury Yacht Harbour in Southampton and Northney Marina in Hayling Island – both located on the South Coast of England – have been awarded the prestigious Five Gold Anchors by The Yacht Harbour Association. The Gold Anchor awards rate
the service, quality and overall standards of a marina’s offering and are deemed as the being the highest honour in the marina industry. Both Mercury Yacht Harbour and Northney Marina received the best possible accolade following a rigorous testing and audit process that rates marinas similarly to the star system used for hotels. Mercury Yacht Harbour achieved
an impressive 92% overall and Northney Marina was awarded 89%, both receiving a near-perfect nine points out of a possible ten for the marina’s mystery shop. Mercury Yacht Harbour was
praised for its well-maintained facilities and the benefits and social activities provided for berth holders, with the assessor concluding that the marina is an active marina, with a range of social activities. Customers also benefit from MDL’s Freedom Berthing, super-fast Wi-FI and 24/7 marina support. Northney Marina was also
commended for its wide range of boating services and facilities to a high standard in what was described as a very pleasant, clean, sheltered and great location and surroundings. Adrien Burnand, Head of
Marketing at MDL Marinas, said: “We are delighted to have another two of our marinas recognised for offering the highest marina standards in the industry again. These awards are a real testament to the hard work put in by the team at the marina, as well as clearly demonstrating the quality of the facilities and services on offer to our valued berth holders”.
