IN BUSINESS 2016
omen Champion of Change
New for this year, this category rewards those individuals – women and men – who have been instrumental in influencing attitudes and implementing changes to support women in the workplace
Winner • Linda Christmas, Chiltern International
Since joining the HR department at Chiltern, Christmas’ desire to provide opportunities for women and men throughout the organisation has allowed her to hire and promote a number of talented individuals. Her perseverance is evidenced through the company’s ongoing shift to a culture of trust and empowerment.
What the judges said
Judging for this award was led by Blake Morgan and partner Kath Shimmin said: “Following a period of acquisitions and integration, Linda recognised a need to create an identity for her business. For this to be a success, she has shown passion for creating a culture where everyone can achieve their potential.
“Overcoming challenges along the way, she has travelled the business to listen to the people on the ground, ensuring everyone has a voice. Following a trip to their Indian office, and meeting some of the women workers there, she and a colleague formed ‘Women in Chiltern’ – an initiative which builds on the company’s value of supporting everyone.”
Comment on the award
As Christmas was out of the country, Chiltern’s executive director HR, Elizabeth Williams, collected the trophy on her behalf. She said: “Linda’s vision is to transform the culture of the company. She has been a key cornerstone in moving it towards a culture of trust and empowerment, and she’s got the enthusiasm of all of us to embrace this change. Linda has tremendous passion for the organisation and the people in it, and vast reserves of energy and drive to overcome the obstacles.”
