It’s time to shop local A celebration of

A year-old Solihull lingerie firm is among 101 businesses that will be taking part in this year’s Small Business Saturday campaign. Small Business Saturday UK encourages

consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. Each of businesses involved will be featured in

the 100 days leading up to Small Business Saturday, which will be on 3 December.

‘The goal is to have a lasting impact on small businesses by changing mindsets’

Small businesses found that during last year’s Small Business Saturday, customers spent £623m with them, an increase of £119m or 24 per cent in 2014. The Solihull business is Sipsey Lingerie, which

will be featured on 21 October. Sipsey was launched by former high-flying

city banker Sukhy Nijjar, and sells a range of nightwear, lingerie and shapewear.

She said: “Sipsey Lingerie are thrilled to be

taking part in Small Business Saturday this year as it’s a brilliant way of supporting independent boutiques and businesses. “Sipsey believes strongly in encouraging

people to start shopping local and helping independent companies to flourish.”

Local Businesses asked to answer Childline’s Call

Last year in Birmingham, Childline received 12,749 of landline calls from local children. This year is the 30th anniversary of the service being launched and the NSPCC is asking local companies to join a new initiative in support of their vital work.

It is called 30 for 30 and the idea is simple – 30 local companies each raising £2,000 for Childline in its 30th year. £2,000 represents the cost of recruiting and training each new Childline volunteer counsellor and the first 100 calls they receive.

To Celebrate Childline’s 30th brummie comedy legend Jasper Carrott is hosting this year’s NSPCC Laughter Ball.

Make sure you book your tickets for this fantastic black-tie event, backed by the Birmingham Business Board, which is being held at the ICC on Friday, November 18. Further entertainment comes from art rock band, The Subterraneans and Birmingham classical singer Chloe Barry. Last year’s event raised a fantastic £25,000 for the NSPCC, this year the event is looking to raise £30,000 for Childline’s 30th!
