Greater Birmingham’s leading companies By Dan Harrison

When thousands of students across Birmingham head home for the summer, Cleaning Force UK springs into action. The Sutton Coldfield-based firm is now in its 10th year providing specialist carpet, floor and upholstery cleaning at a wide range of major commercial establishments in the West Midlands and beyond. With Aston University, Birmingham City University and Liberty Living – which offers accommodation for University of Birmingham students – among its biggest clients, the summer holidays are a particularly hectic period. “It’s our Christmas,” said co-director John Hope. “Most cleaning companies tend to be contract cleaners – they go in

and empty bins, dust and wipe round. We come in after them. We are always the last ones in. We specialise solely in carpet, upholstery and hard floor cleaning. You could describe us as a niche cleaning business. “There aren’t many companies who specialise in commercial

carpet cleaning, capable of taking on hundreds of thousands of square feet. “There is a lot of student accommodation in Birmingham. It can

be a hectic time because we have to work around those who are using the university facilities over the summer for conferences.” With co-directors John and Joy Hope and Rob Bassett at the

helm, Cleaning Force UK started out as a domestic cleaning service. But investment in high-tech low moisture cleaning systems proved to be a game changer. It enabled the company to land a

Rugby team gets off to good start

Relegated Birmingham Moseley has made a successful start to its quest to get back into rugby’s second tier. The team won its first match,

and has been boosted by three new players, George Grieve, James Burgoyne and Andrew Kitchener. One of the new players, James

Burgoyne, has progressed through the ranks at Moseley. He said: “I think it's great that the first team coaches have had the faith and belief in me as a player to give me a contract for the first team. “Over the last few years the club

has really pushed forward with integrating the academy players with the first team, training in pre-season and being involved in squad sessions on many occasions throughout the year. This has made the rapid step up into the first team possible.”

Show goes on with new partners

The Rep has forged four new corporate partnerships, which it hopes will provide vital support for the theatre’s work both on stage and in the community. The theatre has linked up Birmingham-based

accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young which will see the firm support The Rep’s work with emerging artists and theatre makers. To celebrate the start of this relationship, UHY

hosted an event at The Rep which featured Rosie Kay Dance Company’s latest work, ‘MK Ultra’. The event, entitled ‘The Art of Accountancy’, was

an opportunity for attendees to gain a rare insight into the rehearsal and development process when creating a new dance piece. ‘MK Ultra’ explores the world of conspiracy theory and will premiere at The Rep next March. In addition to UHY, The Rep has also welcomed two

of Birmingham’s landmark hotels - The Copthorne and Hotel La Tour - as corporate members. The Rep is also celebrating the return of pub group Mitchells and Butlers as a sponsor.

Following a series of funding cuts and decreasing

public subsidy for the arts, these new partnerships provide vital support for The Rep. Rachel Cranny, fundraising manager, said: “We are

thrilled to welcome such respected companies. We look forward to growing many more partnerships like these.”
