Exciting times for UCSP Ltd as they face 2017 with confidence
Since its formation in 2013, University Commercial Services Plymouth (UCSP) Ltd has been on a journey to develop a hospitality and event catering service which is amongst the best in the South West. This work continues into 2017 with an expanding portfolio of clients and exciting additions to the team.
Commercial Services Director Matt Hodson picks up the story; “UCSP is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Plymouth University and has its genesis in the provision of experience enhancing services to the University's students, staff and visitors. This means that our primary focus is on excellent customer service, providing a quality product and ensuring excellent value for money. This is something that we are delighted to be bringing to the wider community and business world.”
At the heart of the service is a real commitment to delivering food which is “local, sustainable and fresh”. UCSP has strong links into the local supply chain and has won recognition for both their sustainable approach and quality of food. This includes the national Food Made Good – Best University 2016 Award. This has been achieved by a dedicated
team of chefs and front of house staff who have recently been joined by Head Chef, Chris Sandham.

Chris developed an enviable reputation during his time as Head Chef at the Theatre Royal Plymouth, and has made an immediate impact with UCSP since joining in May. Chris explains that; “When I joined the company, it was clear to me that a lot of work had been done to ensure that the event catering services meet the demanding requirements of Plymouth University and third party clients.
The team understand that good food and good service should be the expectation at any event, poor food or poor service will detract from the main purpose of an event and that fantastic food and fantastic service has the power to enhance even the driest meeting.
To this end, I am determined that we continue to properly understand our customers’ requirements in terms of menus, budgets and “feel” because we aspire to always be fantastic!”
The past year has been a busy one for the company’s hospitality service with around 100 catered events per week. As Matt Hodson says; “Over the last 12 months, we have served approximately 150,000 people at a range of different events including conferences, meetings, dinners, barbeques, open days, receptions and more. With an expanding portfolio of clients, we are expecting even more in 2017!”
