The Duke

Based in the heart of Britain’s Ocean City, the Duke of Cornwall Hotel has played its part in Plymouth’s visitor economy for many years, even before the phrase ‘visitor economy’ was a recognised term! Nestled in the heart of Devon and Cornwall, the hotel has always enjoyed celebrating the surrounding beauty to attract new and repeat visitors – from Dartmoor and Cornwall, to the city and sea, the Duke is perfectly placed to showcase the region. With the Mayflower 400 commemorations fast

approaching Plymouth is a vibrant, up and coming city, with a world class waterfront and an impressive calendar of established events across the year. The hotel takes a leading role in promoting the

annual activities to both local residents and visitors from across the world using their website and social media platforms to engage with guests from every age and background, such is the appeal of a city which has a strong cultural, historical and food offer. A recent blog on the hotel’s website encapsulated all

that Devon has on the doorstep and reached thousands of potential visitors from across the world. The impact of images plays a key part and this is a constant area of investment - even the Duke’s website homepage aims to showcase the South West as much as the hotel, because it is about creating a package and keeping visitors in the region for as long as possible and encouraging them to return. Waterfront Partnership and chairing Conference Plymouth, an organisation that aims to provide excellent event opportunities to ensure that the city attracts national and international business. The organisation recently supported an excellent bid by Destination Plymouth to secure UKInbound, which will be held in February 2017. Opportunities like this will help to shape the city’s future and it is key that the hotel does all it can to support. The hotel also supports the Plymouth Marketing

Leaders Group, set up by the Devon Chamber of Commerce in 2014 with the sole purpose for key businesses to collaborate and join forces to give Plymouth the platform that it deserves. With the Seafood Festival fast approaching and the Christmas offer increasing every year, the hotel is keen to join forces to maximise the opportunity to bring new visitors in. In order to make sure that Plymouth is ready for the

world stage that it will be presented on in 2020, the hotel has also worked in partnership with Plymouth City Council, Plymouth waterfront Partnership and the City Centre Company on a campaign called ‘Make a Difference for Mayflower 400’. This initiative encourages businesses to invest in their own property, make a commitment to the public realm and back their BID. This project will grow as we build closer to 2020 and is key to the potential legacy. The hotel’s rich history plays a significant part in the Plymouth’s past and the team are keen that the hotel continues to play a leading role in the city’s future, putting Plymouth on the map as the South West destination not to miss.
