landscaping & external works ‘Roaring’ success for AkzoNobel at ZSL London Zoo
When London Zoo was creating a new lion enclosure experience for visitors they needed suppliers and manufacturers that could provide the high levels of design and finishing for the ideas they had in mind. It would be a perfect project for leisure building designers Pinelog and coatings manufacturer AkzoNobel to highlight both their quality and innovation. The new venture would entail Pinelog manufacturing and supplying pre-manufactured timber frame en-suite bedroom lodges. They would be individually coloured and themed for visitor overnight accommodation alongside the Land of the Lions
project.In a seamless nod towards their environment the lodges would be called the ‘Gir Lion Lodge’. The Gir Lion Lodges would be a perfect fit for AkzoNobel’s SIKKENS CETOL® WF 771 one-pot system coatings system. With SIKKENS CETOL® WF 771, Sikkens Wood Coatings provide a special product which is highly protective against the damaging effects of UV light and moisture. Its transparent film deluges and fills the pores in the wood with the Saturator-Effekt® and therefore increases its durability. Flaking of the coating does not occur. The Self Stratifying© binder used in CETOL® WF 771 is modularly based. The Land of the Lions exhibit, was officially opened by HM Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on 17th March 2016.

Excessive rain water has to be removed quickly and reliably from sports fields and competition areas. The SPORTFIX® drainage channels and other components offered by Hauraton comply with the latest standards and also meet IAAF requirements. It is essential sports facilities are designed and equipped to prevent serious injury to sports people if falls or accidents occur. The University College Cork (UCC) has redeveloped their Mardyke Athletics Track in Cork City, Republic of Ireland. The new facility is part of a €10 million budget included a new synthetic eight lane, fully floodlit, running track built to the IAAF standard with an additional 3720m² (40,000 ft²) added to the original arena. The arena now includes an indoor 60 metre running track, a performance analysis suite, two additional gym areas with over 140 additional pieces of the latest gym equipment and three additional fitness studios. Hauraton SPORTFIX® drainage channels with aluminium finishing edges were installed around the perimeter of the IAAF, 400 metre track and along its straight. A steeple chase water jump kit was also installed plus Hauraton SPORTFIX® Sand traps and soft edging were installed around the long jump pit.
