hen Emily Cagle sought a natural remedy for her headaches, little did


she know it would eventually lead to a business.


Cagle has been plagued by headaches for most of her life.


The 22- year-old was born with hydrocephalus, a condition characterized by excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain which results in an abnormal widening of spaces in the brain. This widening creates potentially harmful pressure on the tissues. While she has a shunt in to help drain fluid, she still gets headaches,2 especially when fluid builds up.


To combat the pain in a natural way, Cagle started making her own all natural pain salves — using the internet as a tutorial.


Then during the holiday season of 2015, Cagle was looking for


affordable Christmas gift ideas and decided to make pain salves and soaps to give away.


People asked for more, and before she knew it she had launched Auntie Em’s Essentials.


Arkansas is the Natural State so it only makes sense you’d find great all natural beauty products produced here. We found two lines —one from Mountain Home and another in Yellville —that are worth exploring.

Emily has been “Auntie Em” to her nieces and nephews for 13 years. The “Essentials” part of her business comes from the fact she uses essential oils in her products.


Essential oils are concentrated extracts taken from plants that are purported to promote physical healing or have emotional value. For example, lavender is said to be calming; peppermint may help
