QF Focus Magazine Cash and goodies for Elche children's Home
The annual BBQ at Restaurante El Alto La Dolores was held in aid of Elche Children's Home. These BBQs are always special as they provide an opportunity for some of the children to enjoy the party, as well as benefiting from the proceeds.
The two young ladies and young men who came from the Home certainly had a ball – feasting on the food, non-stop dancing, and they even gave us a song. A total of 658€ was raised on the night. This money will be spent on summer clothes for the 18 children currently residing at the Home.
But the benefits didn't stop there. One of the attendees, Richie Sharples, won a 42 inch SMART TV at another raffle, and he very generously donated this to the home as well.
A second-hand electronic keyboard has also been given to the home, for the children's enjoyment.
The Mediterranean cruise, donated by the Restaurant owners, Andres and Berna, as 1st prize in the raffle, was won by Mrs Davis from Puebla Brava.
The photo shows cruise winner, Mrs Davis, receiving the ticket from Restaurant Manager, Cornel. Also pictured are Annette English from the charity and organiser, Marlene Brown.
ADAPT welcomes the Vice Consul
BREXIT was the main topic when Sara Munsterhjelm, Vice Consul in Alicante, visited ADAPT to give an informative talk on the role of the British Consulate in Spain.
High on the agenda were the concerns of British Ex-pats since the referendum.
Sara reassured everyone that there was no need to panic, that nothing would immediately change and certainly not for at least two years. While it is impossible to speculate at the moment Sara informed us that the Spanish Prime Minister has said that he will respect the outcome.
Concerns about healthcare, passports, residency, work permits and spending power were addressed in a questions and answers session and Sara, who has worked for 8 years at the Consulate, explained to us just what support can and cannot be given by the British Consulate. She informed us that advice can be obtained from the British Consulate Alicante website.
Other items on the agenda were interesting facts about the difference between the British Consulate and the British Embassy, emergency passports, registering births and deaths and arrests and imprisonment in Spain.
