(Courville xx sire line through Jasper) and tracing to Lucky Boy xx. Wizard’s dam is by Ahorn (Nimmerdor/Ladykiller xx) and out of a mare by Tangelo xx and out of a Jasper daughter. Vagabond de la Pomme (8th), a Belgian Sport Horse, is
by Vigo d’Arsouilles (top jumper), who was sired by Nabab de Reve (top jumper and top sire of jumpers), who was sired by Quidam de Revel (top jumper and sire of top jumpers), who was sired by Jalisco B (top jumper and sire of top jumpers), who was sired by Alme Z (by Ibrahim). Vigo d’Arsouilles’ dam was by the Ibrahim son, Fleuri du Manoir. Vagabond’s dam is by For Pleasure (Furioso II/Grannus) and out of Narcotique II de Muze, an international jumper by Darco and out of a Chin Chin daughter. Qlassic Bois Margot (9th), a Selle Français, is by L’Arc de
Triomphe (an Oldenburg jumper), from the Ladykiller xx sire line through Landgraf I and boasting two crosses to Gotthard as well as Pilot as his maternal grandsire. Margot’s dam is by Galoubet A (by the Ibrahim son Alme Z) and out of a daugh- ter of Double Espoir (by Ibrahim). It should be somewhat apparent that the names of
certain ancestors keep appearing in the pedigrees of these top dressage horses and top show jumpers. Now let’s see if that pattern holds true for eventers.
EVENTING
The top five horses from two back-to-back four-star competitions, Rolex Kentucky and Badminton, will give us our top ten eventers for examination.
ROLEX KENTUCKY THREE-DAY EVENT
Fischerrocana FST (1st), a German Sporthorse, has her Thoroughbred sire descending from the Birkhahn sire line and also boasts Nijinsky II, both sport influences. Her dam descends from the Cor de la Bryere sire line through his son, Calypso II (international jumper and sire of jumpers), and also carries a cross to Sandro (by Sacramento Song xx and an

descending from the Calypso II branch of the Cor de la Bryere sire line, but with two crosses to Ladykiller xx in the background along with a single cross to Ramiro Z. His half- Thoroughbred dam traces to Hail To Reason xx (by Turn-To), Princequillo xx and A Gambler xx (full brother to Bold Bidder). More importantly, his dam also comes from the Calypso II sire line plus adds another cross to Cor de la Bryere, making Doesn’t Play Fair linebred to that influential stallion. Mighty Nice (4th) is registered as an Irish Sport Horse, but
his sire is KWPN and his dam is of unknown heritage. His sire, Ard Ohio, is a grandson of the famous jumping influence Pilot (Westphalen), and the Hanoverian/KWPN jumper Voltaire (Furioso II/Gotthard). He also traces to Courville xx. Another Holsteiner, Fernhill Cubalawn (5th), is yet another of the descendants of the Calypso II sire line, and his sire also adds Ramiro Z, Capitol I, Landgraf I and Sacra- mento Song xx to the mix. His Thoroughbred dam is from the Princequillo xx sire line, making her a relative to numerous eventers, including Doesn’t Play Fair (3rd at Rolex), Arctic Soul (3rd at Badminton), Simply Priceless (8th at Rolex) and Petite Flower (9th at Rolex).
