good form this spring but I think my lack of experience on a team level is probably something that will hurt my chances. Of course, you don’t get that experience until they allow you to get it!” “I just want to do the right thing for my horse—it’s not something that’s been a priority, shooting for the Olympics. I just want to get better and if that’s good enough, we’ll know from there.” Dawn and Jon have zero expectations for Maya and

Cody—they just want the two of them to stay healthy and happy. “The good thing about Jon and I is we’re probably a bit different than many owners, as we’re very hands-on and we’re realistic,” says Dawn. “We’re hard-working, 80-hour-a- week working people.” “Of course the Olympics cross your mind when your

horse places third at Rolex,” she admits, “but we’re back in the barns and we see what’s going on. Maya’s an incredible rider and Cody’s an incredible horse, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other horses and riders on the same path. I’ll be just as excited for whoever manages to make the team.” Whatever happens, Jon and Dawn support Maya and

Cody to the fullest. “We’ve known Maya for 12 years now and seen the struggle and the heartbreak involved in getting to the Advanced level. This is not the first horse she’s created, but he’s the first one sound enough to get her all the way. Her previous horse is standing out in our field because she didn’t quite make it,” Dawn says.

“To have Maya fulfill her dreams with Cody is a no-brainer

and we back her 150 percent,” she continues. “We do every- thing we can physically and emotionally to support her. If I could do it all over again, I would. She definitely makes us want to be better people. She’s an amazing young woman; she’s so humble and truthful. Whatever Maya says she’s going to do, you can count on her. I feel fortunate to have her in our lives.” “We don’t have any expectations. One thing is for sure,

Cody’s not going anywhere; he’s staying with Maya. If they make it to Rio of course we will be there,” Dawn adds. “We might have to sleep in a tree house, but we’ll be there!”
