Northwest ... continued from page 21 it is to me. I hear tales of these
fish, I’m told of how they fight & how they are the tastiest fish of all, but alas, I’ve yet to lay eyes on one let alone catch one. I’m talking about the striper, striped bass,
linesider or in my case
“unicorn”. Apparently in 1973 one of these fictional fish weigh- ing a stout 68 pounds was caught on the Umpqua River by Beryl Bliss. If anyone knows Beryl or their family, tell ‘em I want to see a picture. Tis fictitious fish can live to be 30 years old and grow to a maximum of eighty pounds but rarely exceed 12 pounds on our coast and are eas- ily identified by its seven or eight dark stripes along its sil- ver to white body. Te unicorn is a native to the East coast and were first intro- duced into California waterways in 1882 with an introduction of only 300 fish. From this relatively small introduction the numbers exploded and within twenty years the commercial catch alone in California was over a million pounds a year. Tese fish are an anadromous which means they can travel between fresh and salt water much like steelhead which is why they inhabit some of the same territory at certain times of the year. Stripers spend most of
their adulthood in the ocean and it is in the spring, usually around March when the water inside starts to warm that they begin to come into the bays and rivers to spawn. Teir spawning will take place
in fresh water, away from the ocean or areas of tidal influence. Stripers are prolific egg layers and a five pound female can lay up to 180,000 eggs and a fiſteen pound fish can lay over a million eggs. Whether they are running up the rivers to spawn or in the surf during the pre-spawn, these fish are oſten caught on surface pop-
pers or longer
slender crank- baits
such as the Rapala
BX minnow. I’m pretty certain that folks are doing well this sea- son because we have sold a ton of striper lures so far this spring. Whether you are catching a uni- corn or playing for big ‘ole flat- fish in the ocean, I hope to see you out there!

readingsbyyerevan@gmail.com Aries (3/21 - 4/20)
During the first half of this month it could take some effort to keep your wits about you as people or issues from the past push your buttons. It will be important to connect with community, be heard, and contribute your skills and knowledge for the greater good. It may be tempting to clam up or shut down but if you do what you love and just be yourself you simply cannot lose. A busi- ness related trip could wind up in fun and adventure.
Taurus (4/21 - 5/20)
If money has seemed to slip through your fingers lately there could be a return of funds and resources this month. An invest- ment that you made several years ago might prove its worth in sudden, unexpect- ed ways. Another highlight is that you could find yourself making amends with people from the past, or after a recent disagree- ment. There may be many family gatherings and changes in your home, so try to be flex- ible as things rapidly shift around you.
Gemini (5/21 - 6/20)
Lots going on with you this month, and not just because of your birthday! After a period of hard work or struggles during the past couple of years, you may finally enter a phase where things fall into place and you begin to notice the fruits of your labor. What- ever wild things you engage in, don’t spend all your quiet moments inside on a couch or bed. Take a partner to explore local gardens or distant galaxies through a telescope. Ex- pand your mind!
Cancer (6/21 - 7/22)
Your sensitivities may be high, bringing your attention to what needs healing and regen- eration. If things seem vague or fuzzy early month, meditation or refuge in your favorite comfort zone may bring swift clarity. With so much change stirring within you, there could be a significant new relationship on the ho- rizon that you have not yet recognized as such. Whether or not you’re aware of it, a lot of passion is brewing beneath the surface.
Leo (7/23 - 8/22)
Let the games begin (whatever that hap- pens to mean to you, star cat)! You might need to get out there and socialize after a period of being rather withdrawn. Do something to get yourself or others laugh- ing again. It’s time to do something different, and even completely opposite of what you usually do. Go to a restaurant you’ve never visited, or watch a movie that you wouldn’t normally find interest in. A job or career shifts later this month.
Virgo (8/23 - 9/22)
Make sure to leave some room for the mys- tery element in your life this month. Maybe you don’t have things as well figured out as you thought, and that’s OK, or even great. Corrections and adjustments can be easy. It can be difficult for you to allow another person to point out one of your blind spots because of your proficient nature, but you might be very surprised at the solutions that appear to you with just a little help from your friends.

“You must give everything to make your life as beautiful as the dreams that dance in your imagination.” ~ Roman Payne UPBEAT TIMES, INC. • June 2016 • 31 Libra (9/23 - 10/22)
How do you define fate and destiny? The ways that you perceive them as well as the ways that they play out is especially height- ened this month. What’s “meant to be” and not meant to be will become very evident, but you will still have choices in how to re- spond. Hemming and hawing are currently not options. It’s time to get a move on, full speed ahead. Hold onto your hat or side handles and get ready for the magic carpet ride of your life!
Scorpio (10/23 - 11/22)
There may be much review this month around your close relationships, and a lot of intense feelings that arise and need outlets. If you feel you’re being confronted with dark figures or tempted with those that would dis- tract you in major ways, recognize them as reflections of your shadow ready to be reck- oned with and released. If you fall, get back up and remember that the phoenix always rises from the ashes. Your own strength will save you.
Sagittarius (11/23 - 12/21)
Recent changes may have you wondering if you’re coming or going. If communications have been jumbled or confusing it could be an indication that pulling inward for a bit is necessary to get clear. This month is also supportive of resolving your conflicts with loved ones. A vacation or a visit to a healer, shaman, or older wise person could be ex- actly what you need for inspiration and guid- ance toward the next steps on your path.
Capricorn (12/22 - 1/19)
It’s time to simply your overly complicated affairs, to organize your finances and to finally let go of what you have absolutely no control over. Try not to cling so tightly to your own point of view. Work might seem demanding at times but your consistency is paying off. Lost money or resources may return to you later this month. Small breaks and rewards that you can provide for your- self help keep your mood even during this very busy season.
Aquarius (1/20 - 2/18)
This is a happy month for you, and if it isn’t then you should seriously question where you are and who you are hanging out with. Light and laughter fill your early summer days, and your visions for the future are growing more vivid and clear. You have more energy than you’ve had in a while to bust through blocks and get a ton of stuff done. As long as you don’t scatter your en- ergy, this can be a highly productive period on all levels.
Pisces (2/19 - 3/20)
Moods, memories, and personal needs seem pressing as the month begins. Be- cause you may feel even more open than usual, it may become important to either establish boundaries with family members or to connect with your soul family which may not be blood related. Perhaps you wish to learn more about your family tree. Being in pristine areas of nature renews your pas- sions and stimulates your creativity, which has many surprises in store.
