The Verbal Commute

Santa Rosa, CA. ~ It’s great to see all sorts of media starting to add a bit more of a positive fl air to their outlets. My wife says to me the other day that she heard a local radio station requesting to have the public send their good news to them so they could announce it. T ey still have to report daily news, good or bad. It is oſt en the type of information we really all don’t need to hear, but it is aired non- the-less. Before the Upbeat Times was fi rst published in 1998, most media‘s main focus was who did what to who, who died, what tragedy occurred, police reports(although some of them we’re hilarious, but 98% sad) and miscellaneous random life challenges

and

troubles and 5% feel good stuff (this is only my observation). Even the sports broadcasts and newspapers publish reports on negative stuff . Normally, it is enjoyable to watch. But a per- son may see and read, some “Fathers get outraged at a lo- cal tee-ball Game” Brawl beaks out! T e perfect example for our children. I am exaggerat- ing a bit, but I know you know what I mean. What most of the public does

not know is the fact that I have personally worked for most of the local media, i.e. Radio, Television(Channel 50 ~ no

because the newspaper had to run a particular story because it was deemed important for the public to know. I knew before it was printed or aired, that the impact would create a negative public reaction. Sure enough, as predicted, it did. I lost much needed income I needed to sur- vive on. As of now, clients/friends/cus-

cause it is healthier for the pub- lic. Healthier for our children and senior citizens all around. And, of course I am not saying in any way what-so-ever they

have not published the ‘positive side’ of our community, just that they are coincidently doing a lot more in the past few years. T is is great for all of us! Also,

I want to mention that the Up- beat Times did not infl uence them in any way, but, if it did, thank you for fi nally catching on and noticing the importance of what is working and mostly, what people want. It makes our world keep interest in the infi - nite possibilities of peace and a bit of happiness everywhere. I’ve been told my cheeriness is a bit annoying. Its ok. I am not ashamed. I actually feel pretty good most of the time. Look what I’ve accomplished in 18 years...A paper people go out of their way to fi nd. Busi- ness owners, the local public and people passing

A man in New York City, worked his way through Yale College. During his course he was kept very busy by the various jobs he did to help with his expenses. On graduation he went to New York, and was even busier than he had been in New Haven. After some months of life in New York, a friend met him and said,”Henry, what are you doing?”

“I have three jobs,” replied

Henry, “I am studying law, I am a newspaper reporter, and I am selling life insurance.”

“How do you manage to get it all in?” said the friend.

“Oh,” replied Henry, “that’s easy enough. They’re only eight-hour jobs.”
