Pulp drying upgrade for Rottneros mill

mill. After the modernisation by Andritz, the flash dryer’s capacity will be increased by more than 50 per cent while at the same time specific heat consumption will be reduced. Start-up is expected in the fourth quarter of 2016. Austria-based technology group Andritz says it will provide a customised upgrade including a new drying stage as well as new cyclones, including complete mechanical erection. The newly designed cyclones will meet highest environmental standards, thus minimizing emissions. “The target of this investment

reduce the use of energy in our CTMP Flash Dryer. We’ve been having a long-lasting and very good cooperation with Andritz for many years now, and this has been a strong reason to

choose Andritz as a supplier in this project,” says Nils Hauri, production manager at Rottneros mill. Rottneros AB operates two pulp mills in Sweden with a total

Tissue line in Chile offers ‘something different’

To offer ‘something different’ in Chile’s tissue market, Forestal y Papelera Concepcion (FPC) has started up its new Advantage NTT tissue line supplied by Valmet.

The line produces 100 per cent

textured tissue, enabling FPC to differentiate its high-end products with lower energy consumption. With a width of 5.5 metres, the line is the widest so far installed by Valmet. It is designed for flexibility, with the capability to

swing between production of plain and textured tissue with low energy and fibre consumption. It has a design speed of 2,000 metres per minute in plain mode and 1,800 metres per minute in textured mode, offering capacity of 70,000 tonnes per year of bath, towel and napkin tissue grades. “Our strategy is to provide something different to the market. To succeed, we had to look for a new and innovative technology, so the choice fell

on the Valmet Advantage NTT concept. We are also using 100 per cent virgin pulp, and all in all, it has paid off. Today, we are producing great tissue products with very high bulk and softness,” says Marco Monsalve, operations manager at FPC. Gunnar Söderqvist, project manager of Valmet’s tissue mills business unit, added: “The cooperation between Valmet and the mill team has been great, and we enjoyed working with the

people in FPC.”

The machine is equipped with an OptiFlo II TIS headbox and a cast iron Yankee cylinder. It also features the well-proven Advantage tissue technology, including the AirCap Yankee hood, a SoftReel reel and the WetDust dust management system. The delivery features a Valmet Focus Rewinder and an extensive automation package including Valmet DNA, dilution control, and quality control systems.
