Control stability of fabric profiles during production

directly at the paper machine, thus providing important information for optimising process stability, has been launched by SeamTech, a division of the US technology corporation Xerium and its leading clothing division Huyck.Wangner. The Fabric Scanning Profiler monitors key parameters and individually adjusts them to the specific production process. The instrument is mobile and

A

n instrument that measures the fabric profiles during production and

runs automatically, and can also be controlled and steered remotely, making it useable in almost any situation. The tension and fabric thickness measurement runs across the fabric and can be made at an inclination of up to 45 degrees. Control and data recording are conducted over

a W-LAN network. This enables detailed, dependable analysis of the forming fabric or other clothing components with data output and storage directly on location – even if the paper machine is stopped briefly. With a modular configuration, the instrument is offered for measuring clothing thickness and tension, and is available with an optional camera module for visual inspection of the fabric surface. The camera can be used to examine the forming fabric at targeted points, thus enabling continuous visual monitoring of

the fabric surfaces, on the running side as well as the paper side. Edgar Hofstetter, Head of

SeamTech, commented: “The advantages of ideal analysis and optimal forming fabric output are obvious to forming fabric and paper manufacturers. These benefits come together at the bottom line in outstanding drainage performance with increased production efficiency and top paper quality – an added value which pays off in hard cash.” More information from seamtech@huyck.wangner.com

Dryer fabrics that perform in the hottest places

The range of CleanWeave dryer fabrics produced by Voith has been extended with the launch of Magma. Made from hydrolysis-resistant PPS, Magma is said to ensure performance in the hottest dryer locations. Extreme temperatures in some paper machines put dryer fabrics under severe stress and call for special material properties. Hydrolysis-resistant PPS reduces the stress on the fabric, allows service intervals

to be properly planned and thus prevents unscheduled machine downtimes.

Both Magma and MagmaHigh use the weave pattern that has already proven effective in the CleanWeave product range. The weave structure features industry low internal void volume, which significantly reduces dirt within the fabric. Due to its relatively low number of yarn crossover points, this compact weave pattern makes surface cleaning

easier and ensures constant air permeability. This guarantees that the fabric maintains its air permeability for optimum drying and web running properties over its entire service life. The superior reliability of

fabrics makes planning easier and ultimately leads to more efficient and economic paper machine operation. As well as the dryer fabrics, Voith offers excellent service support and associated consultancy services. Kimberly-Clark Europe chooses Futura JOI Embosser

The latest-generation Futura JOI Embosser was specified by Kimberly-Clark Europe for a tissue converting line at its Niederbipp mill in Switzerland. The JOI Embosser first started up last October and is being used to produce Kimberly-Clark’s high quality multi-ply toilet tissue. The JOI Embosser can operate in

various modes, including nested, decorated embossing and point-to- point, including random point-to- point. The JOI embosser is said to

symbolise Futura’s transformational influence on tissue converting. Kimberly-Clark will benefit from patented features such as the Zero Deflexion embossing rolls and

flexibility in embossing pattern and configuration changes. The JOI has also been designed with optimum safety through guarding and reliable automation of all its main parameters, including nip adjustment. The JOI Embosser at Niederbipp

features a Futura Steel Marrying Roll that ensures no re-embossing

effect and ‘perfect’ inner ply definition. It is also said to offer reduced maintenance and simplified cleaning. More information from Futura Spa, Via di Sottopoggio 1/x, 55012 Guamo, Lucca, Italy. Tel: 39 0583 94911. Fax: 39 0583 949 1323. Website: www.futuraconverting. com
