room at 5:15 pm and see a school club working out, several regulars going through their workouts, a few new people being oriented by weight room staff, a personal trainer helping some- one to a new goal and a cycling class about to get underway. The energy is palpable and addictive. The diversity in age is also obvious—from 14 to 84 years of age.

the building as a training facility, the Special Olympics rents our swimming pool, and partnerships with local busi- nesses draw people through our front doors. We have reached out to our local


health network to find program oppor- tunities. Through careful and support- ive structured training, we currently have 10 local physiotherapy clinics, our local health unit, physicians and health practitioners recommending our facility as a place to heal and grow stronger. Our strong membership sales are


directly linked to our caring staff. Our most successful sales strategy has been the selling of 10 passes with non-expiry dates. We offer a special free membership for students at the at- tached high school, and family mem- berships offer a 15 percent discount on camp and general interest programs. We measure our success by the re-


sponse of the people around us. Are members having fun? Did we get their names right? Are they enjoying more than one area of the facility? Have we offered the chance to volunteer or work with us? Did they feel welcomed the first time they came in? Did they leave wanting to return? FBC
