time,” smiles Alison Veazey apologetically. “Our first Open Exhibition of the year begins on Saturday and the preparations have been frantic. We’ve had over eighty artists submitting up to four pieces of work each, so getting them all processed, sorted and hung appropriately has been a challenge to put it mildly!” Alison is the Arts Coordinator at the Harbour House Arts and Yoga Centre, a popular, yet amazingly tranquil place set back from Kingsbridge’s bustling Promenade. She is pleasant, twinkly-eyed, empathetic and, to me, seems more than capable of rising to any challenge that may occur, artistic or otherwise. work for selection. “It can knock your confidence if your work isn’t selected,” she admits. “Some of the pieces submitted for our forthcoming Open Exhibition are from artists exhibiting for the first time. Many attend our workshops and have been encouraged by their tutor. It can take a lot of courage, and we really want to support them all the way! Our open art exhibitions are also very popular with established artists and they’re quite a big event in the local art community. Our theme for this spring is ‘Trees’ which has turned out to be very popular – actually we have been overwhelmed. The queue on the handing-in morning went right out the door. It’s brilliant in one way but upsetting too because there is just not enough space to exhibit every piece.” Harbour House is a unique and thriving local asset. Originally established in 1997
