Dual Smart Pepto, to win the $3,000 novice-horse competition at the South Texas CHA show in Bren- ham January 17.
Cassie Cerny, Brazoria, and Belles and Bullets
won the top youth check on January 17 with a 74, at South Texas CHA’s event. That and fifth place with 72.5 the day before netted Cassie the weekend’s youth circuit award, a trophy buckle.

to win the Open Classic at Hill Country Cutting Horse Assoc’s January 23 event in Dripping Springs, and then later another 72 for Stephanie Britt to win the $2,500 Novice Rider class.

Tom Carney, a cutting horse trainer from Au-
rora, lost the entire contents of his rented home to a fire on January 26. He, his wife, April, and their 2 children escaped with the clothes on their backs. While his wife is staying with her parents in Fort Worth, Tom is staying in the living quarter trailer to continue working the training horses. An account has
