Lost Horizon Ranch, Bryan, hosted its


annual awards banquet January 22. The Cham- pion Rider Bowl was Melvin Carter. The Champion Horse Bowl went to Laurine Mar- low’s horse, Texas News. Melvin Carter was also overall HP playday champion, and Kayla Vick was HP horse show champion. With horse show and playday points combined, overall champions were Bailee Sanders (8&u), Lacey Nichols (9-13), Carly Nichols (14-18), and Melvin Carter (19&o). The Fort Worth Stock Show and Texas


A&M University teamed together this year to offer the Equine IQ Contest on January 18. The first-time event for the Stock Show tested horse enthusiasts’ ages 8 to 18, with contestants di- vided into 3 age categories. Only those in the senior division competed for a total of $40,000 in scholarships. Caitlynn Teel, Fairview, took top honors in the senior division and netted a $12,000 scholarship that she hopes to spend in realizing her dream of becoming a veterinar- ian. Senior youth placing second through fifth also received scholarships, including Bryn Stryk ($10,000), Cailyn Simonis ($8,000), Julie Hill ($6,000), and Kaitlyn Glass ($4,000). Sabine Lazo was intermediate champion (11- 13) and Santina Hackett was junior champion (8-10).


The USTRC Bayou Championships,


held January 22-24 at Coushatta Pavilion, Kinder, LA, paid out over $230,000! AR Ranch & Stock Horse Assoc hosted


a membership meeting and awards banquet on January 23 in Conway. Several horse-&-rider combos had earned both high-point and all- around honors, including Shelly Burr (green- horse/Z Whiz), Doc Oak Showdown (novice/ Mandi Stewart), Southern Belle Cheyenne (youth/Olivia Gardner), and Sam’s Smokin Peppy (nov-y/R.C. Rawls). HP champion titles also went to GG Trigger Is King (all-age/Shane Cochran) and Liberty Reins (am/ Greg Williams). AA champions also included Pep- pys A Misprint (all-age/Mike Clark) and Pep- pys Doc Bar King) (am/Stacy Rutledge).
