You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate and enjoy St. Patrick’s
Day. Every March we hear about the lucky Leprechauns and Sham- rocks of Ireland and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! This month, our craft includes a Shamrock hat fashioned out of a paper plate, a rainbow also created from a paper plate and lastly, our rain- bow seeds--a treat for all to enjoy.
Paper Plate Shamrock hat, Paper Plate Rainbow, Rainbow
Seeds Materials: • Paper Plates • Scissors • Stapler • Tempera paints & brushes • Paper Punch • Chocolate covered gold coin • Cotton Balls • Sandwich bag • Skittles or M & M candies • String or ribbon Instructions: Let’s start with the Shamrock hat. Fold the paper
plate in half. Using a marker, or pencil, create your 3-leafed clover. We created a template and traced it. Cut the shamrock so it stands up and leaves the remaining plate to create the hatband. Using green paint, we created our fashionably stylish shamrock hat. Note: to make the hatband larger, cut the back rim and add length to desired size, stapling added piece in place. To make the paper plate rainbow, we folded the paper plate in
half and stapled the edge. Using our water-based paints, we painted our rainbow. Then, we added a cotton ball at one edge to depict a cloud, and at the other end, we attached the gold coin using school glue. Everyone loves rainbows and treats. We purchased a multi-col-
ored candy (Skittles, M & M’s or fruit cereal) and put a full scoop into a sandwich bag. Using a paper punch we labeled tied our ingredi- ents, “Rainbow Seeds” to the bag. Everyone received their very own Rainbow Seeds!
