Pulp Paper & Logistics Comment W

elcome to the January/February issue of Pulp Paper & Logistics. Many sectors of the pulp and paper industry have been making full use of the extended holiday period so we have lots of news

and articles to bring you in this first issue of 2016.

Speaking to both readers and suppliers alike, the indications are that mills will be concentrating on both maintenance and state- of-the-art service to ensure maximum productivity from existing machinery and equipment. Energy consumption and its reduction continues to be a driving force for many mill owners and the move to on-site CHP plants has become a reality for many (see www. forestbioenergyreview.com).

The feedback on the production of packaging, tissue and board suggests it will grow at the same rate as last year. Pulpwood continues to be in demand from both the producers of pulp for tissue and paper and the wood pellet industry that feeds biomass power plants. This can only increase the competition between the two sectors.

Looking forward to events this year and dates for your diaries there is International Wood Biorefining Week being held at Stockholm in Sweden from 24-26 May (www.iwbweek.com), Zellcheming at Frankfurt in Germany from 28-30 June (www.mesago.de/en/ZEX/ For_visitors/Welcome/index.htm) and MIAC at Lucca in Italy from 12-14 October (www.miac.info)

In our next issue we will be covering the following areas: • Shipping, Ports, Handling, Containers, RoRo & rail, Wrapping, and Warehousing focus (including cranes)

• Effective use and treatment of water • International Pulp & Paper Week (pre-show news)
