waste material which is left after unwinding the roll in a printing press, sheet cutter, corrugator or similar, to be recovered separately from the core for easier recycling. The core itself has a value: there
are expensive aluminium or plastic cores which always are recycled, but even a plain cardboard core is valuable. If the cardboard core cannot be recycled in-house, there are companies buying cardboard cores at a fairly good price and thus recycling can be even more profitable. CFE Nordic’s Butt Roll Unwinder is said to be fast, safe and efficient. The operator places the butt roll in the cradle, secures the web of paper or plastic film around an upper shaft and the
machine that automatically unwinds and separates waste paper or film from
material is unwound from the core and wound loosely onto the upper shaft. This shaft is tapered to allow easy removal of material, but as an option the shaft can also be expandable. Other features of the machine include a safety cover, an ability to process butt rolls of different
lengths and diameters, and the possibility of unwinding several rolls simultaneously. The Butt Roll Unwinder handles
most types of materials; copy paper, newsprint, SC-paper, kraft paper, high grammage board, plastics film and foil, and tissue paper.
