The new line features green liquor technology for efficient pulp cooking, refining, and washing and produces 1,000 tons per day of semi-chemical pulp for the production of corrugated board from birch and aspen. mechanical treatment in which the fibres are liberated from the wood matrix. This delignification process step is interrupted at an early stage in order to increase the yield and produce stiff fibres – an important quality in the production of corrugated medium. A major advantage of the Andritz

green liquor technology, which is mainly applied for hardwoods and enhances the fibre quality substantially, is the efficient and easy recovery of cooking chemicals in the adjacent kraft mill. Thus, no additional process steps are needed for chemical recovery.

Heightened interest for Zellcheming Expo

With less than six months before Zellcheming Expo, the annual exhibition for the European pulp, paper and supplier industry being held in Frankfurt from 28-30 June 2016, more than 50 per cent of the exhibitors from last year have already registered and some new exhibitors have signed up. Key industry players such as

Voith Paper GmbH, Valmet GmbH, Kemira Oyi, Gebr. Bellmer GmbH Maschinenfabrik and Omya

International AG will be presenting their products and innovations. First-time exhibitors, and those who have not exhibited in the last two years, are being offered “an uncomplicated and cost-effective exhibition participation”, in the Newcomer Pavilion. This year’s conference is entitled ‘Fibers in Progress’. Last year the show had 153

The global fluff pulp market is expected to grow by 3.6 per cent a year to reach 6.5 million air- dried tonnes in 2020, according to a report from Smithers Pira. “Fluff pulp is a very desirable pulp product, with production costs lower than for dissolving pulp, and prices higher than for paper-making grades,” said Phillip Mango, author of the report. “The outlook for fluff pulp pricing is that it will not vary as much as it has in the past and list price will stay high while actual discounted prices slowly drop from 2015 through 2020. This will make fluff pulp even more

attractive versus other fibres.” Fluff accounted for about 10 per cent of the total pulp market in 2015. The large hygiene end- uses consume the majority of global fluff pulp and drive the growth of the fluff pulp market. The fastest growing major end- use for fluff pulp is nonwovens. The fluff pulp market is dominated by large pulp and paper companies located in North America, the four largest being Georgia-Pacific, Weyerhaeuser, International Paper, and Domtar, accounting four 80per cent of production last year.
