PATRICIA
I lived in my house at Findon for 58 years. I’d had a lovely peaceful life there, raising my six children. I’d had a few falls, but after the last one, I was locked inside the house and nobody could get in to help. After that I went to Murray Mudge for a few weeks of respite care.
Six weeks into my stay, I had a bad turn one night and had to be rushed to hospital. When I recovered, the hospital wouldn’t let me go back home by myself. I had to find permanent residential care.
I’d loved it so much at Murray Mudge that if I couldn’t go back

home, I really wanted to go back there – it was like a second home. So my children helped me to organise it, and within a day I was set up in my room.
I love it here. The nurses and carers are wonderful and the food is lovely. I wasn’t managing very well at home, but now I have a nice room to myself, where I can remain independent and look after myself but get support if I need it. There’s always someone there to stop you from falling.
There are excursions, day trips and heaps of activities to do – bowling, exercise and gardening – just about everything that anyone could want. There’s something happening every day.
I would love to go back and visit my old house one day, but I’m very happy here. Not a day goes by that I don’t think how lucky I am.
