I’m a stay-at-home mum of two and am expecting my third child. Because I’m home with the kids during the day, we use a lot of energy, particularly during the summer.
Energy costs have gone through the roof lately and paying the electricity and gas bills has been a struggle, especially as I’m on a low income.
I was discussing a bill payment plan with my supplier, Origin Energy, when they mentioned the Power On Program. You get a free energy visit, where someone visits your house and helps you understand your bill and
THIS YEAR, OUR ENERGY WORKERS HAVE VISITED 256 HOUSES THROUGH THE POWER ON PROGRAM, PROVIDING HOUSEHOLDERS WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW ENERGY IS USED WITHIN THE HOME IN ORDER TO LOWER THEIR BILLS. WE HAVE ALSO SEEN MORE THAN 2200 PEOPLE FOR COMMUNITY UTILITIES LITERACY EDUCATION.
how to save on energy consumption. It sounded like a great idea.
Uniting Communities contacted me and arranged a time for Sabina, my energy worker, to come around. She was really helpful. She gave me a lot of tips on how I could save energy, like changing the cycle on my washing machine to cold, re-setting the temperature on my air-conditioner, and even looked at how much the pool pump costs to run.
Sabina ran through all of my appliances, including dryer, dishwashing, light switches and TVs, and left me a list of ways to save
energy. She also checked through my bills and identified when I was using the most gas and electricity.
My bill is highest during summer, so Sabina looked at ways that I can keep the house cool without using power. She even measured up my windows and dropped off some blinds for me – at no charge.
My last bill was a lot lower than it usually is, which is fantastic. It’s made a huge difference to us and has relieved some of the pressure.
