SPIRE REACHES NEW HEIGHTS
This year, our partnership with Clayton Wesley Uniting Church continued to bear fruit through the ongoing activities of the Spire Community, says Reverend Peter McDonald.
"The Spire Community is a group of helpers, collaborators, social support seekers, arts enthusiasts, music buffs, creative types, bargain hunters, volunteers, gardeners and spiritual revellers, with a strong focus on inclusivity and participation.
The Spire Community’s activities centre on welcoming and supporting people in the community, particularly refugees. This mutually beneficial collaboration is based on a shared sense of purpose and values. The aim is create an environment where all people, especially those who often feel disengaged and vulnerable, can engage and feel a sense of belonging.
A key outcome of the partnership is Hope’s Café, which offers affordable meals to the community every Friday. English classes and employment workshops are also available for refugees and migrants on Fridays. The Spire Community Garden provides local residents with the opportunity to work with each other to grow healthy fresh produce.
The Spire Community enables local residents and people from all walks of life to gather, chat and make important social connections. It’s about working towards an inclusive, integrated community, where everyone is welcome, nurtured, celebrated and able to actively participate to achieve their potential."
