ability to handle any system failures safely. Central to this is the need to include full self-diagnostics for each individual pump, valve, and other components in the system. As an example, there was an incident last year where the plastic housing of an electrolytic chlorinator cracked in routine service. Since the Tornado system has flow sensors both at the exit from the circulation pumps and the return to the pool, it was able to detect that no water was going back to the pool. Therefore it shut down the circulation pump to prevent a flood in the plant room, and raised an alert. Whilst the main touch screen is located on the control panel in the plant room, remote control and monitoring screens are located in the pool house, and another in the main house. To provide remote access Tornado chose a web browser-based interface, since this is available on any device with a web browser. PC based management is also implemented, allowing simultaneous remote monitoring of several installations. This is particularly useful to pool management companies.

For all manner of swimming pools and recreational waters Topline have covered the full range of requirements needed for pool water control. The Topline TEC4000, the new touch screen Wi-Fi enabled flagship controller, will take control of the pH and chlorine dosing, using a robust platinum/platinum amperometric free chlorine sensor, and uniquely also controlling the sand filter flocculent dosing pumps, the variable speed drives, and peripherals such as timer controls for the day tank electric agitators, together with on-screen and download data-logging. Topline also manufacture the TEC2000, data-logging pH and amperometric free chlorine control with outputs for VSD and mixers, plus the twin TEC3000 and the TEC3500 controllers. Identical in appearance, the ’TEC3’ series units have full colour touch screens, for pH and amperometric free chlorine control, but the units offer subtly different functionality to suit different needs of the pool operator. The TEC3500 being a simple ‘read it and feed’ and the TEC3000, using Fuzzy Logic algorithms, limiting the need for end user standardisation.
