Queen’s Award Celebrations For The Tintometer Ltd
Wiltshire based The Tintometer Ltd celebrated the official presentation of the Queen’s Award in October. Her Majesty the Queen’s representative, the Lord-Lieutenant for Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Troughton, presented the company with the Queen’s Award for International Trade, the highest distinction that can be bestowed upon a UK company. The Lord-Lieutenant spent the morning visiting the company’s Amesbury factory, and took great interest in meeting employees and seeing the company’s work. The entire staff of The Tintometer Ltd from Amesbury and Wadebridge factories were accompanied by Mr Cay-Peter Voss, Chairman of the Tintometer®
Group, Mrs Maja Voss,
Managing Director of the Group and many international colleagues from Germany, the USA, China, Malaysia and India. The Tintometer Ltd won the Queen’s Award for growth in overseas earnings of 160% over the last six years. “We are so delighted to receive this prestigious award. It is deserved recognition for the hard work and talent of our whole team,” said Managing Director Chris Counsell, adding: “It is even more important to us when you consider that our export growth was achieved during the peak of the financial crisis and the worst recession in the last 100 years.” Over the last 11 years, the family business has grown into an international group, with its headquarters at Tintometer GmbH in Dortmund, Germany. The company manufactures water testing instruments and chemical reagents, and also instruments for measuring colour, all under the Lovibond®
brand. Customers are
worldwide, with over 75% of sales to countries outside UK. Increasingly the company’s products are sought after in developing
countries, where there is a need to improve water quality and control the colour of products in industrial processes. Realising that the financial crisis would affect demand in traditional export markets, such as the EU and USA, the company focused on growing sales in the Far East, China and India, which were less affected by the slow-down. Looking to the future, Cay-Peter Voss, Chairman, confirms that the outlook is good. “We are so pleased to see this recognition for our UK company, and it reflects the emphasis we place on export sales across the whole group. To ensure our continued success, we are increasing our investment in research and development. Water and colour quality control are two rapidly growing markets worldwide. To be granted the Queen’s Award for International Trade is very important for us, and it will certainly help us to achieve more in the future.”

‘Simply The Best’ Pool Service And Support From BTU
Having been in business for over 40 years, BTU Poolservices is one of the UK’s most established and respected swimming pool companies. They, like so many others, have weathered the recession and have come out the far end, stronger and ready for the future. So how did they do it?
Norman Macmillan, BTU Poolservices Managing Director said: “It is really simple. We looked at how companies in this very competitive market place were performing and treating their customers, we also listened to our customers and what they were looking for from us. It boils down to ensuring that our customer support and service is the best! “On the supply side, as the UK’s number 1 spares, parts and supplies distributor, we maintain a huge stockholding (over £300k’s worth) of commonly required parts which we despatch for next day use, so that our customers can provide the best service possible to theirs.
“On the maintenance and refurbishment side, we are lucky that we can employ an incredibly experienced and knowledgeable

team of engineers year round. We ensure they are fully trained on jobs of varying sizes and types, whether maintenance, repair or refurbishment and that they possess a comprehensive mix of skills, including up to date electrical, gas and oil plumbing and heating qualifications. We aim for ‘one-visit fixes’, so repair jobs are completed quickly, efficiently and cost effectively. To achieve this, our customer service and technical help team are top notch and are fully trained in diagnosing problems and briefing our engineers.’ “We also, do not use sub-contractors, so we can be confident of the quality of the jobs we undertake and that costs are kept down too. Plus we are totally transparent in our charging, we have no call-out charges, so there are no surprises and our customers are confident and happy in what we are doing for them.”
Norman concluded: “We undertake a very wide scope of work and as well as providing
