MONTH’S BAND
THIS
WHO? Music Lessons are nine individuals working together to bring energy and excitement back to the Norwich hip hop scene; meet Rzee, Buckers, Sumo, Harry Ixer, Meezy, Ricky Lix, Streakz, LB and L’s, plus extra associate member King St Blues. Each has their own style and voice. Tey have pedigrees, many rapping since their teens, and all acknowledge that without the support of the Skid Row Show on Future Radio, where they have rapped and even recorded, they may not even be together. A new generation of rappers has arrived.
SOUNDS LIKE? It may be all about the tunes and the rhymes, but the first thing you notice when you meet Music Lessons is the chatter; ask them about their work and they will talk for days, why they make music, how they make music, what they want to achieve with their music. All of it good to hear
Soundwise they are all different and it takes time to get to know them. Like walking into a forest there are lots of dark places and

it’s a bit impenetrable at first, but the more you look around the more you appreciate the variety and subtlety of what surrounds you. Tere are words you will identify with, words you will disagree with, all told against an impressive array of homegrown beats.
“Hip hop has been too separated,” says Meezy, “It shouldn't be about fighting each other and having rules and saying one genre is the real one.
It's all good.” Being part of a band of brothers like Music Lessons has given them all the strength to find their own style and get back to the most important thing. “We all just want to write and make music.”
LIVE? Music Lessons are getting more requests to play now. Each show gives them another lead and an offer of another gig. Tey know they can cause a stir
just by arriving, with nine people taking to the stage as one. “We can see the funny side too,” said Harry. “We are different heights, different looks – sometimes we only have one mic between us too!”
FUTURE PLANS? Definitely making more music. Tey are sitting on a mountain of it, which they have not been in a rush to get out, preferring to get things right as a collective first.
