LETTER FROM THE BY LAURA SHELTON, CMP

What Will 2016 Bring? I

can’t believe that 2016 is already here. It seems like time is moving at warp speed these days. That can be good since time seems to move fastest when you are busy or having fun. For me, it’s luckily been a little of both. One of

the things that tend to go by the wayside when I am busy, though, is keeping up with business reading. When I do carve out time to catch up, however, I find it very rewarding. Taking the time to learn about what others are doing and gleaning information from their experiences that I can apply to my profession is very beneficial in many ways. In looking over this issue of DATIA focus, I am impressed with the many diverse

topics being discussed. Each article provides a wealth of information for all industry professionals regardless of the services that they actually perform. Topics include: the benefits of a quality substance abuse treatment program, how to write an effective drug-free workplace policy, new developments regarding synthetic drugs, and how testing volume affects drug testing programs. In addition, there are articles on alcohol testing device calibration, marketing, and working with clients to best serve them. Moving into 2016, DATIA is expanding the diversity of topics covered in both

DATIA focus and our educational programs including training courses, webinars, and conference presentations. This is due to the changing demographics of the DATIA membership and the fact that our membership is diversifying the services that they offer. As our membership diversifies, we look forward to representing that diversification on DATIA’s Board of Directors and Committees. New officers will be taking office in April, as will the 2016–2017 Board of

Directors. By now, you will have received information on how to apply for the DATIA Board of Directors and we look forward to receiving your applications. If you haven’t yet, we also encourage members to submit applications to serve on a DATIA Committee. Both of these opportunities provide valuable ways for you to affect DATIA programs and initiatives as well as learn from the experiences of fellow Committee and Board members. I trust that you will enjoy this issue of DATIA focus and hope that you find

inspiration from the many articles and topics covered. ❚ Best,

Laura Shelton, CMP DATIA Executive Director
