LETTER FROM THE BY PHIL DUBOIS, DRUGSCAN, INC. CHAIRMAN Change is Coming!
Happy New Year and Welcome to 2016!!! Did I Really Write 2016?
I
truly hope your holidays were blessed and that you had time to relax and recharge with family and friends. One thing is certain. We will see
many changes in the drug and alcohol testing industry in 2016 and in the future. Electronic Custody and Control Forms (eCCF) for federal testing are a reality and I suspect many labs will be approved in 2016. Expanded opiates and oral fluid testing could become a mainstay in the federal testing program. Hair testing has been introduced in the U.S. Congress. The proposed bills would allow motor carriers to use hair testing as an acceptable alternative to urinalysis for detecting use of controlled substances by individuals, but only for pre-employment testing and random testing. Speaking of change—this is my last letter as Chairman of DATIA. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Chairman and especially the time spent getting to know DATIA members. As in
4 datia focus
any volunteer positon, you rely heavily on the team behind you. We have an incredible team at DATIA and I want to take a few moments to thank all of those that have made DATIA what it is today. I want to thank Laura Shelton, DATIA Executive Director, and her staff Kristina Queen, and Emily Gilcher. These ladies work tirelessly to make DATIA one of the best values as a trade organization to membership. A special moment of appreciation to Adina Young, Communication Manager for DATIA. She manages all of the social media and DATIA focus. Under her direction she has grown DATIA’s social media following significantly. Additionally, Adina manages the DATIA focus magazine and the process of article requirements, submission and approval. She does an incredible job keeping me and my fellow board members and production of DATIA focus on schedule, a formidable and valuable trade magazine for the drug and alcohol testing industry. Many thanks to these four ladies for everything they have done over the past two years to make it fun and personally rewarding. Many thanks also to the Board
of Directors, committee chairs and committee members. These volunteers work tirelessly to allow DATIA to be the voice and advocate for the members of the drug testing industry. Their selfless dedication to our organization is above and beyond and another integral part of the value our membership receives. Finally, I want to thank my Executive Committee for all they have done over the last two years to plan and strategically direct DATIA and all of its efforts. Thank you Scott Taillie of Alere, Secretary; Andy Powell of Nursing Corps, Treasurer; and Sherri Vogler of Houston Medical Testing Services, Chairman- Elect. It has been an absolute pleasure to help lead DATIA with my fellow Board
Members, Scott, Andy, Sherri and Laura on this voyage. Please know you are being left in
great hands. Sherri Vogler, DATIA’s new Chairman, has served DATIA in many positions over the years. She has led the Education and Conference committee, created DATIA curriculum, served as Master Trainer (M-CPCT) and presented multiple times at DATIA Conferences. I have been a vendor to, a customer of and a partner of services with Sherri on multiple occasions. Her dedication to doing it right is second to none. Most importantly, she is a great and longtime friend and I wish her the best of success as DATIA’s new Chairman. In closing, I want to remind you
that change is inevitable—even within DATIA. I will now begin my term as Past Chairman. Some Board Members terms will soon be coming to an end. If you want to effect positive change in DATIA, please consider applying to become a Board Member of DATIA. The many years that I have spent as a member, Board Member, Treasurer, Chairman- Elect and Chairman have reaped many personal and business rewards. I highly recommend that you apply to become a Board Member today! If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me, other Board Members or the DATIA management team. Hoping 2016 brings you and
your family much peace, prosperity and happiness.
Happy New Year!!!
Phil Dubois DATIA Chairman
