• In today’s ultracompetitive environment, the focus on productivity, performance and profitability has never been higher. Whether it is to attract new customers or to recruit new drivers, all companies need to improve their status in the marketplace. Leadership and productivity speaker Wade Randolph helped attendees with tangible strategies to achieve this goal. His primary message? Challenge yourself to examine your own performance. Can you do more? If so, what is holding you back?
• In today’s litigiousworld, nearly every trucking company executive is likely to end up in court at some point after an accident. To help you prepare for your inevitable day on the witness stand, the attorneys at Franklin & Prokopik consisting of Andrew Stephenson, Bert Randall, Brad Fowler, and Greg Franklin joined with budding thespians Nicole Brushmiller, Don Bonnett and Craig Talbott for an entertaining and
educational mock trial. Audience members played the role of jury by electronically voting on their phones to render a verdict. Not surprisingly given the audience, the trucking company was exonerated. No evidence of jury tampering was found. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this workshop such an enjoyable show.
As the daily workshops wrapped up with
the election of new MMTA officers and directors, those who stayed for the Chairman’s Banquet quietly watched the darkened sky dumping a cold rain outside. But if you turned to the feast set up during the cocktail hour, you could easily forget the weather. Turf Valley outdid itself for our gathering, affording guests a chance to unwind after a busy day while enjoying delicious hors d’oeuvres and dinner. The Chairman’s Banquet featured the accom- plishments of outgoing MMTA Chairman Howard Levine, Ramar Moving Systems.
2015–2016 EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS
Chairman Levine felt that MMTA needed to fulfill a demand for future leaders in the Association. Along with President Campion they developed a training program to teach the next level of management staff within member companies what it means to serve in the leadership of MMTA. These brave people stepped up and wholeheartedly accepted the challenge. We hope this two-year program will give the necessary skills, knowledge and connections to our future leaders. Thank you for your time and dedication.

22 BEHIND THE WHEEL ~ Q4 Winter 2015
As we learned more about Howard’s achievements, we also got to meet incom- ing Chairman Dennis Morgan of Cowan Systems. Chairman Levine was not only commit-
ted to serving MMTA for this term, he wanted to ensure the Association’s future would be full of responsible, committed, and educated leaders. Levine created an Emerging Leaders Program to engage young members who want a more active role in MMTA. A select group of men and women spent the last year learning more about MMTA and how the Association works, speaking with legislators and lobby- ists about the importance of political advo- cacy, traveling to the capital in Annapolis, touring member locations and offering feedback on how the Association can con- tinue to meet the needs and expectations of its membership. The Emerging Leaders Program will continue, with year two add- ing to what the group learned this past year. Every two years going forward we hope to share the program with a new group of future leaders. Each “Emerging Leader” was presented
with a plaque for his/her participation in the program. Several other awards were presented during the banquet to honor those who stood out over the last year. Each year since 2002 MMTA holds a
Long time MMTA friend & leader Mel Fair (Central MD International) enjoys his coffee and a chat with Margie Malloy of Interstate Van Lines. Margie is one of our Emerging Leaders participants.
