ments were particularly evident among the Specialized sector, where carriers accounted for the higher cost of specialized equipment when expanding or replacing their fleets. In addition to analyzing costs by indus-

try sector, ATRI’s Ops Costs report breaks out the costs per mile by region of operation. Fleets that operate primarily in the Northeast reported the highest costs per mile at $1.793 per mile. Northeast-operating fleets had average toll costs ($0.044 per mile) nearly double that of the next highest region for toll costs where Midwest-based fleets reported an average of $0.024 per mile in toll costs. Other key benchmarks reported in the

Ops Costs report include the average age of trucks and trailers in respondents’ fleets and the average miles driven per year by truck. ATRI’s analysis also identifies equip- ment trade cycles for trucks and trailers, and the average miles driven until replace- ment for straight trucks and truck-tractors. Fleets participating in ATRI’s data collection reported an average of over 730,000 miles
