the MMTA scholarship program, which is designed to assist young people who want to join the trucking industry as drivers or mechanics. He’ll also work with MMTA staff to find ways to improve services to members and to educate or save money for them.


Although it is a national issue, Morgan is


also concerned about the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s implemen- tation of its Compliance Safety Accountability program. “The concepts are good, but the design is bad and the system is flawed,” he said. “If there’s anything that MMTA can do as an organization to sup- port the American Trucking Associations’ efforts in getting things changed, I’d like to do it.”

The Next Generation in Trucking Morgan and his wife Judy will celebrate


their 40th wedding anniversary this year. They have three children and four grand- children. Dennis Jr. lives in New Jersey and has two children. Daughters Kristin Hurdle and Laurin Clemens both work with their father at Cowan Systems, one in logis- tics and the other in billing and adminis- tration. Each of these women has one child, and Judy Morgan provides daycare for them. “It is a truly unique experience seeing


the grandchildren every day, and watching them grow up,” said Morgan. “And it’s much easier this time than it was the first time, with my own children.” Busy with his responsibilities at Cowan


Systems—and now at MMTA as well— Morgan doesn’t have much free time for outside activities. But he does enjoy duck- pin bowling, taking his boat out on Middle River and occasional trips down to Ocean City. BTW
