Welcome to this month’s Dart Harbour bulletin
Rob Giles, Harbourmaster
as usual, it’s been a busy year at Dart Harbour with infrastructure work, maintenance work, visiting vessels, regattas and rallies.
During 2015, the town Jetty and the Kingswear dinghy racks were replaced and upgraded. In total, 22 pontoon sections were installed to replace the floating part of the town Jetty which features significant improvements and is much more user friendly than the previous one.
In addition, we have replaced our middle Deepwater Visitor’s Pontoon, part of a three-year rolling programme of works to replace all three Deepwater Visitor’s pontoons.
much work and marketing has been allocated to encouraging cruise ships to visit – a strategy that is paying off with nine cruise ship calls provisionally booked for 2016.
unfortunately during 2015, bad
weather prevented two planned cruise ship visits; Dartmouth did, however, still host two visits which were very successful, along with several other notable vessels including the Tenacious, Pelican and TS Royalist. we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for good weather for next year!
Visitor numbers are up on last
year, particularly cruising yachts enjoying the attractions of the Dartmouth and totnes area, with events such as Dartmouth music Festival encouraging many rallies

Strategic Plan the aim of the strategic plan is
to visit the harbour. Dartmouth regatta was again
very successful with few incidents on the water and visitors heeding our safety advice. many positive comments were received from visitors which is always pleasing.
River Officers You may have noticed two new faces on the river this season – sam walker and rob everett joined us as river officers, responsible for patrol work on the river, collecting dues, assisting visitors with navigation and mooring within the harbour and moorings maintenance

to set the blueprint to manage, protect and enhance the river Dart as a safe and thriving community asset in the years to come. the latest five-year strategic plan has now been approved by the Dart Harbour Board and follows the Forward Vision project which collated the views of more than 900 respondents.
some of the key themes that
have emerged in response to the public feedback are continuing to successfully manage the harbour, infrastructure investment and maintenance, environmental protection, partnership working and the development of a distinctive area brand. How Dart Harbour is going to work on these themes will be in the plan which will be released at the annual public meeting.
Moorings policy we have started a five-year review of our mooring policy and are now seeking the views of our harbour users. three public meetings have been held and the draft moorings policy will be circulated in December.
the revised moorings policy will be implemented with effect from april 1 2016 to coincide with the new season.
