Red wine has been in the press
a lot recently about its magical antioxidant known as resveratrol which is good for heart health and fights cancer and other diseases. this is also found in chocolate, cocoa and white wine. Turkey contains an amino
acid known as tryptophan which enhances the production of serotonin which makes us feel content and sleepy. this is the reason why everybody will crash out on the sofa after Christmas Lunch! tryptophan is also found in milk which is why a cup of cocoa at bedtime is helpful to getting a good nights’ sleep, and as you know santa does not visit unless you are fast asleep or at least pretending!
If you are not bothered about santa and are a grown up
then stay downstairs and have a ‘Super Foods’ cocktail. using ingredients that you will have in the house most days and most definitely for the festive season! Both can be made in industrial quantities and be on hand for friends and family dropping in.
Stocking Stuffer Slushy 5oz double cream 3oz full fat milk 3 oz cognac or Grand Marnier 1 tablespoon fine sugar 1 tablespoon cocoa powder 1 teaspoon vanilla extract mix all this together and pour into a shallow container and freeze until slushy. Garnish with orange zest, twist it first to release the delicious aroma of the oils.
Santa’s Little Helper 6oz full fat milk 1 cinnamon stick 1 tablespoon cocoa powder 1 tablespoon Demerara sugar 1 tablespoon double cream 1 oz tequila or rum or other liquor of your choice or what you have to hand! Put the milk in a pan with the cinnamon stick and bring up to a simmer meanwhile make a paste with the cocoa powder, sugar and cream. Put this into the bottom of a pretty mug then pour over the alcohol. stir this up then pour on the hot milk and garnish with some shavings of chocolate and whipped cream if you have some left over from another dish.
