STAFF and customers at the Red Lion in Lenham have raised more than £25,000 for the air ambulance since it attended an incident at the pub 25 years ago. Now, 25 years on, staff and cus- tomers at the pub in The Square have fittingly raised more than £25,000 for Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance a year after it cele- brated its Silver Jubilee. This year they raised £4,000 from
their annual harvest auction. Land- lady Nicole Mills said: “I'm always flabbergasted by the generosity of the donations and people bidding their hard-earned money in such hard economic times.” This year’s auction, golf days and
meat raffles raised £7,000 which will also benefit the Heart of Kent Hospice, Demelza Hospice for Children, Cancer Research,

owner of Howe Court had made repairs to a bridleway shared by the groups and the property, but

the grand total of £32,319 raised by The Red Lion will help potentially save 13 lives.
Parish probes woods activities
there were issues about costs. Members felt that while this
was a civil matter, theywanted to know why ballast had been de- livered to Rutland Woods, used by the Jubilee Church, and which activities are carried out at Howe Court Woods by the Wild Times group and whether any planning permissionswere needed.

Firm seeks expansion
GFORCES has been in talks with Thurnham Parish Council and Maidstone Council over its hopes to expand its operation in Caring Lane. The company – a leading provider of internet software and services to the automotive industry – is discussing how it might build an on-site training centre for its clients.
Thurnham Cllr Peter Waite said
the company was looking to de- molish a bungalow next to its site on Gooseberry Farm, which would provide replacement parking for that lost by building the training fa- cility on its existing site. He said: “There is no planning application at this stage, but the company wanted to hold early talks with interested parties about their hopes and that is appreci- ated.”
Councillors agreed to reserve any
full discussion on the issue until a planning application and full de- tails are received.
Hospice help
PARISH councillors in Thurnham agreed to make a £50 donation to the Heart of Kent Hospice, near Aylesford.
