and bass – are providing plenty of action for anglers right now, and bluegill are biting pretty well too. Bass are hitting both during the day and the evening. Most cats are prime “eating size” – 3-6 pounders, with a 10-pounder be- ing the winner during a recent tournament. Big news! Trout season will be-
gin on Friday, Oct. 30. More than 16,000 pounds of Nebraska Tail- walker rainbows will be planted just prior to the opener. Thursday, Oct. 29 will be a special “VIPfish- ing day” with a limited number of tickets available. Contact Daniela
at the Pro Shop, (714) 649-9111 if you want a spot on VIP day. Tick- ets include boat rental, breakfast and a terrific barbecue lunch. Anglers are finding good num-
bers of catfish at the west shore and mid-lake on mackerel, bonito and shrimp, with some freezer- burned yellowfin tuna that is peculiar to this year’s saltwater bite. Strong scents like Berk- ley Catfish dip improved results substantially. Excellent numbers of 2 to 4-pound largemouth bass, with a few bucketmouths more than six pounds, are to be found early morning in topwater, while the fish move down to 15-20 feet later in the day. The City of Orange unveiled
the new outdoor fitness circuit at Grijalva Park last month, with city officials attending the rib- bon cutting ceremony to open the facility to the public. The sign “coming soon,” which had been displayed for months, was finally retired.
Comprised of 19 pieces of high-tech exercise equipment, some of which are wheelchair ac- cessible, this new site is located at the southwest end of the soccer field. The machines include an el- liptical cross trainer, a leg press, a stepper and plenty others to pro- vide a gym-style workout in your local neighborhood park. The best part is that it is completely free and open to the public. The funding for the new ex-
ercise circuit came from a hous- ing related parks grant the city received from the State of Cali- fornia. The outdoor fitness circuit joins
the Sports Center at Grijalva Park and the Santiago Creek Bike Trail as another in the roster of park improvements and expanded rec- reational opportunities provided by the City of Orange Commu- nity Services Department.
