Pedrosa set to start a new era at Orange High
Robert Pedrosa is the new head football coach at Orange High School, and has been busy prep- ping his Panther team for the sea- son opener against Buena Park. Pedrosa liked what he saw in a scrimmage against Cypress, and
spoke to his team after the scrim- mage. Pedrosa noted that the team is healthy, and that he saw a lot of players during the practice. He said, “The D line stuck it to them, and we got to find our depth. The offensive line, who average 285
pounds, should open some good holes.”
Orange is in a rebuilding year.
The team returns seven players from last year, and Pedrosa inher- ited a near-full squad of seniors. Players to watch this season are
Ty Cole (offensive), Alec Castillo (a two-way starter), Nick Castro (offensive line), Kamron Craig (a two-way starter at running back and safety), and Jesus Schettino (going both ways at safety and wide receiver).
Coach Pedrosa is no stranger
to the community, having gradu- ated from Canyon High School in 1998. Pedrosa continued his col- lege play at Santa Ana Junior Col- lege and recently was an assistant coach at Cerritos Junior College.

Football season openers
Senior Kenneth Lamb, a first
team All-Century League pick from last year’s semi-finalist team, leads El Modena into the season opener against Wood- bridge High School. El Mode- na leads the series 1-0, having faced Woodbridge for the first time last year. Foothill will clash with Tu- the annual “Battle
stin for
for the Gauntlet” Sept. 4 at Northrup Stadium. Foothill leads the series, 27-22-2. Canyon travels to face Troy

High School. The Comanchees hold a 4-3 edge in the series. Villa Park looks to hold on
to their three-game win streak against La Quinta on Sept. 4. Villa Park last faced La Quinta in 1974. Multi-position player Lance Vecchio should see plenty of time on both sides of the ball, as should Ramon Chaves in the backfield.

Running back Jesus Schettino finds a hole opened up by the offensive line. Coach Pedrosa will also play Schettino as a wide receiver.
Villa Park is ranked fourth and Foothill is ranked eighth. Both schools are from the Crestview League.
