• Oxford Innovation has appointed Kristina Granat (left) as assistant centre manager at Culham Innovation Centre located at Culham Science Centre. She joins Kamona Begum (right), centre support assistant, in a growing team led by centre manager Sandie Alcock (centre). Granat has nearly 10 years experience in sales, marketing and administration roles.


• The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has appointed Alison Alexander as its new managing director and head of paid service. The appointment was verified by full council and she began her new role on July 29. Alexander has worked at the Royal Borough as director of children’s services since June 2013, and before that at Southampton City Council as the deputy director of children’s services. She has an MBA, diplomas in psychology counselling, higher education and youth and community, and various professional and management qualifications. She will retain her existing portfolio as strategic director of children’s services and will continue to be responsible for delivering against associated strategic objectives. The additional duties are supplementary to her current role.


• HMT has announced that Chris Gow joined as a partner on September 1 to establish a debt advisory offering within the corporate finance team. After eight years as senior director in leverage finance with Bank of Scotland, Gow became head of Investments at Lloyds Banking Group and more recently as director at Candlewick Asset Management. He will be working mostly in London where he will be spearheading the opening of a London office for the firm.


• Darbys Solicitors has continued to grow its Oxford-based private client team which now stands at 11 people. New joiners to the team are associate solicitors Susan Floyd and Daniel Boyle. Floyd joins the team with 30 years’ experience and will head up the private client team. She deals with all types of private client matters and has a particular specialism in the drafting of lifetime trusts, documents required during the existence of the trust and the associated tax planning. She also deals with drafting wills, powers of attorney and the administration of estates, and has experience dealing with individuals who are non UK domiciled. Floyd has been a member


of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 1991 and was the founder chairman of the Beds, Bucks & Herts Branch in 1994. Boyle joins the team from Clarke Wilmott. He has considerable experience and his work covers all aspects of private client work including will drafting, tax mitigation for private clients and business owners, probate, trusts, powers of attorney and court of protection. His expertise also includes working with families on generational planning and implementing tax-efficient structures. He is a member of STEP, a member of 'Solicitors for the Elderly', and a member of the Law Society private client section.

• The Oxford office of Marks & Clerk, the global firm of patent and trademark attorneys, has welcomed Tim Watkin as a partner. He joins the office with over 22 years in the patent profession, having served 13 years in the firm’s Singapore office. Watkin graduated from Cambridge University with a first-class honours degree in physics, obtained a doctorate in neural networks from Oxford University, and then returned to Cambridge University as a research fellow. As a chartered patent attorney, he acts mainly for clients in the electronics, computing, bioinformatics and Internet industries.


• High Wycombe-based accountants The Fish Partnership has welcomed two new staff members to its practice. Jeff Higgins (top) and Chris Clarke have joined the firm as it continues to experience significant growth both locally and further afield. Higgins has been appointed as a tax manager at the firm and joins having worked as a corporate tax manager at another practice for the past 16 years. He has a wealth of knowledge and expertise, particularly in the retail sector, and has obtained both the CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) and FCCA (Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualifications. Clarke joins as a trainee accountant having completed a degree in mathematics and statistics at the University of Liverpool. He will now train for the Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA) qualification, accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and will gain practical experience in auditing and accounting.
