LG ELECTRONICS LEADS WITH FOUR APPLIANCE DESIGN 2015 EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN AWARDS
LG Electronics has earned four Appliance Design 2015 Excellence in Design Awards, two Gold and two Silver awards, across mul- tiple home appliance and air conditioning categories.
Appliance Design's Excel- lence in Design awards rec- ognize outstanding achieve- ments in innovation, design and functionality. A presti- gious panel of judges from respected industry associa- tions selects entries from 10 categories for innovation, simplicity, functionality and other considerations includ- ing optimized capabilities, environmental footprint, and energy- and cost-savings.
“We found LG’s impres- sive technologies coupled with sophisticated, stream- lined aesthetics across its product line-up to be clear winners for both LG and our readers,” said Darryl Seland, editorial director of Appliance Design. “The design of these products make them user-friendly for consumers while also dis- tinguishing them from other offerings on the market.”
LG earned distinctions in the highly competitive Major Appliances, Small Applianc- es and HVAC categories:
Major Appliances
• Gold Award: LG Large Capacity Counter-Depth Door-in-Door® Side-By- Side Refrigerator. This re- frigerator offers a sleek and modern look, incorporating clean lines with contoured doors and hidden hinges. It incorporates Door-in-Door technology first pioneered by LG and is the first side- by-side model available in the United States with this innovative feature. It allows quick and easy access to beverages and snacks via a magnetically sealed sec- tion on the right refrigera- tor door that releases and allows access to a built-in door without having to open the entire refrigerator. The Door-in-Door compartment on this refrigerator also reduces cold air loss by up to 47 percent* to help pre- serve food freshness while conserving energy. (Model LSC22991ST)
• Silver Award: LG 4-Door French Door Refrigerator with CustomChill™ Drawer. In addition to LG’s Door- in-Door technology, this ENERGY STAR® certified refrigerator features the CustomChill drawer, located between the refrigerator and freezer which provides additional refrigerator or soft-freezer space with four
temperature settings. This
provides added convenience and flexible storage solu- tions for the entire family. (Model LMXS30776S)
Small Appliances
• Silver Award: LG Over- the-Range Microwave Oven. This microwave oven offers the benefit of LG’s proprietary EasyClean® technology, which allows for quick and easy clean- ing with the simple wipe of a damp cloth (no harsh chemicals or scrubbing necessary). It also features the industry’s first Extend- aVent™ 2.0 feature, which provides more powerful and complete ventilation to cap- ture more smoke and cook- ing smells over virtually the entire cooktop. • Gold Award: LG Smart AC Module. LG Electronics’ Smart AC Module allows users to remotely control their LG duct-free air con- ditioning system to ensure that, whether at home or away, their home stays at the desired temperature. When paired with the free LG Smart AC mobile app, the module communicates with the indoor unit to con- trol various functions, such as temperature, fan speed and air flow. The module is easy to install and provides convenience, personalized comfort and potential en- ergy savings for homeown- ers. The LG Smart AC app is also compatible with both
Android and iOS mobile devices.
“It’s a great honor for LG to be recognized with these prestigious awards for a second straight year,” said David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing for LG Electronics USA. “The distinctions reinforce our commitment to providing consumers with sophisti- cated home appliance tech- nology that not only looks great in the home but also saves them time, energy and money.”

Trane Unveils Nexia Diagnostics:
Remote Monitoring Tool for Residential Heating and Cooling Systems
Trane, the leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), announced a new addition to its residen- tial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) offerings: Nexia™ Diagnos- tics, a remote HVAC system monitoring capability, which can help prevent minor is- sues from turning into major repairs.
Nexia Diagnostics is the latest technology from Trane partner Nexia™ Home In- telligence, the pioneering home automation system that gives homeowners a better way to control their smart home devices from an all-in-one app. The di- agnostic features work in conjunction with Trane’s Wi-Fi-enabled thermostats to send real-time HVAC
system performance data to installing dealers for the highest level of service.
How it Works
The diagnostic features are free for Trane deal- ers and their customers. Homeowners start with a compatible Trane thermo- stat and a free Nexia ac- count and then opt in to the diagnostics to allow their local HVAC dealer access to performance data from their heating and cooling system.
The sophisticated Nexia Diagnostics dashboard provides the dealer with a host of real-time and diagnostic data so he can determine an accurate course of action quicker than ever, from anywhere. If a service call is necessary, he can make sure he has whatever is needed, thereby eliminating multiple calls and saving valuable time.
Once a homeowner opts in, the local dealer can access a website showing real-time intelligence about how the customer’s sys- tem is
performing.System alerts, from routine main- tenance needs to system malfunctions, are automati- cally sent to the dealer, who can then proactively notify customers and address the issue immediately. This unprecedented access to system performance data and alerts helps ensure the dealer sends the right tech- nician with the right parts. Some issues may even be resolved remotely, eliminat- ing the need for an on-site service call altogether. “Nexia Diagnostics is a win for both customers and dealers,” said Karl Mutch-
nik, controls portfolio man- ager, Trane Residential. “For dealers, we are helping to maximize effectiveness and efficiencies, as it will reduce nuisance truck-rolls and time to complete a ser- vice call. For homeowners, we are providing an even higher level of comfort, sup- port and peace of mind.” More information avail- able via

Extech Introduces Heated Diode Refrigerant Leak Detector
Extech Instruments, mak- ers of the best handheld test and measurement tools, in- troduces the new RD300, a heated diode refrigerant leak detector that pinpoints leaks of all CFC, HCFC, and HFC refrigerants with three levels of sensitivity to leaks as small as 0.25oz/ yr (7g/yr). The ergonomic tool also features a built-in LED work light on the probe tip for dimly lit locations. “Leak detection can be one of the most tedious parts of HVAC-R diagnos- tics. The new RD300 makes it easier to quickly find
leaks, without waiting for UV dye to travel throughout a system,” said Mike Fox, General Manager at Extech Instruments. “And when tracking lines for leaks in dark mechanical rooms, the built-in work light eliminates the need for a separate fl ashlight, freeing up one hand.”
The compact and rugged detector uses a gooseneck probe to access leaks in tight locations and cramped compartments. The RD300’s heated sensor has a fast warm-up cycle and quick- continued on page 8D
