New England HVAC Insider Massachusetts rebate program provides valuable savings and zero-interest loans on high-effi ciency HVAC equipment

Contractors can Help Homeowners Lower Overall HVAC Cost with Rebates on Unico iSeries

Four different combina- tions of Unico’s new iSeries HVAC line meet or exceed the requirements of the COOL SMART energy effi ciency pro- gram in Massachusetts, and contractors are busy spread- ing the word among cus- tomers. Under the program, residents can earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars in rebates and potentially qualify for interest-free loans when they replace their “op- erational yet aging and ineffi - cient” HVAC system. The new equipment must meet specifi c requirements for SEER, EER and HSPF ratings. Because Unico’s iSeries outdoor heat pump uses in- verter technology, it achieves high SEER ratings when paired with Unico high-wall units or a combination of high-wall units and ducted units. One outdoor unit can run multiple splits and ducted units at the same time, a fi rst in the industry.

The iSeries heat pump operates continually, never completely shutting down. Instead, it runs gradually with many speed variations, always striving for the most effi cient operation. The unit generally runs on standby idle, making small, incremental changes to keep a constant temperature. In a traditional system, every time the system cycles on it must ramp up to full operating power, requiring a tremen- dous amount of energy. “The constant on and off cycles of most HVAC systems require much more power to operate, and of course that leads to utility bills that make you want to cringe,” said Scott Intagliata, market- ing director at Unico. “The inverter technology is really quite revolutionary and will go a long way toward reduc- ing energy consumption and bringing down heating and air conditioning costs.”

Unico introduced the iSeries in the U.S. in 2014 after it entered a partnership with Argoclima, an Italian manu- facturer that has produced the high-effi ciency HVAC line for several years. The iSeries combines the Italian-made outdoor unit with Unico’s American-made air handler and has found a strong niche in custom homes as well as retrofi ts in older homes. The iSeries works in tandem with Unico ductless and small- duct, high velocity heating and cooling equipment.

Even without the iSeries During the summer months, Unico System air handlers remove 30 percent more hu- midity from the inside air than a traditional system would, making the home feel cooler even with the thermostat set a few degrees warmer. Unico’s insulated fl exible ducting has very little air leakage, which also improves effi ciency con- siderably. The ductless units can heat and cool separate areas in a home such as enclosed porches or fi nished attics, for a fraction of the cost

of traditional systems. The iSeries is available in 1.5 ton to 3-ton capacities. The air handlers include the ability to heat with boiler heat as secondary heating source. No other inverter drive unit has this capability.

Unico products are avail- able through dealers na- tionwide. In Massachusetts, dozens of contractors specify and install the Unico System on a regular basis. The COOL SMART resi- dential heating and cooling energy effi ciency rebates are

available on qualifying central AC, ducted and ductless heat pump equipment replace- ments installed April 1, 2015 through October 30, 2015. Visit www.MassSave.com for details, or contact Unico at 800-527-0896. 
