SOUTHERN MANUFACTURING

100 TM

JLT joins ranks of Southern Manufacturing 100 sponsors

JLT Specialty has joined the list of sponsors for the new Southern Manufacturing 100 which is being launched by The Business Magazine. The campaign is now supported by global insurance broker JLT, NatWest, law firm Shoosmiths, accountancy firm MacIntyre Hudson, and IT company Taylor Made Computer Solutions

A list of the top private manufacturing companies in the south will be published in an upcoming issue of The Business Magazine, and the index will be available online. Events will be held including Roundtable debates in both Southampton and Reading bringing together top manufacturing companies from across the region.

Peter Cant (pictured), head of JLT Specialty‘s risk practice in Reading, said: ”As a specialist insurance broker and risk adviser we have many clients in this sector, including some of the region‘s leading employers, and with a rise in mergers and acquisitions within the sector, we are well placed to provide specialist advice about the risks faced within this complex area. We look forward to partnering with Shoosmiths, MacIntyre Hudson, NatWest and Taylor Made in the sponsorship of this event and deepening our relationship with such a vital part of the economy in the South East.”

JLT has a key regional office in Green Park, Reading, and is celebrating more than doubling the size of this office since its opening in May 2012.

Cant launched the Reading office just under three years ago with a team of five, to bring its specialist insurance broking capabilities to the Thames Valley area.

Since then, the team has more than doubled in size and now boasts 12 permanent members of staff based in Green Park. Clients include a wide diversity of local businesses including McKay Securities, Ascot Racecourse, Surrey County Cricket Club and Wingate Electrical.

Cant has over 30 years‘ experience in the insurance industry, having begun his career at JLT in 1983. He left in 1988 to run an independent broker for 17 years before re- joining JLT in 2005.

He commented: ”We are delighted with the growth of the Reading office and look

forward to further expansion within the region. Our highly-skilled team enjoys brokering competitive insurance deals for our clients. We have already won a number of new clients locally, leveraging our sector focused expertise to the best advantage of these businesses.”

The Reading office is looking to expand further throughout the next 12 months, with a particular focus on the engineering and manufacturing sectors, as it launches a new insurance package to cover the unique risks they face.

On the Southern Manufacturing 100, publisher David Murray said: ”Following the success of our other lists, such as the Southern Tech 100 and the Thames Valley 250, we want to shine the spotlight on manufacturing in this region.

”While we may not have the big car factories in the south – notwithstanding MINI at Oxford – we have a wealth of top-quality manufacturers, especially smaller scale, high- end engineering companies.

”In the Thames Valley there are numerous specialist businesses, including the cluster around Formula One motor racing, while in the Solent region, apart from traditional manufacturers, the marine sector has some excellent success stories.

”Through this campaign, we will be profiling growing manufacturers and highlighting some of the challenges facing the sector.”

Manufacturing contributes £6.7 trillion to the global economy and makes up 54% of UK exports. The sector employs 2.6 million people.

• Manufacturing companies based in the Thames Valley or Solent regions that would like to be included in the 100 should email details to David Murray at david@elcot.co.uk.
