Three well-respected firms were announced as finalists:

With JLL (formerly Jones Lang LaSalle) having won this inaugural award last year and Lambert Smith Hampton also shortlisted in 2014, Cushman & Wakefield was ‘the new boy on the block’ at these awards – an odd place to be at nearly 100 years old and the world’s largest privately-held commercial real estate services firm.


Cushman & Wakefield is today a powerhouse, employing 16,000 professionals worldwide, with the Thames Valley team completing 70 deals last year and achieving a 175% increase

in space transacted. Based at Stockley Park, near Heathrow, the team has majored on industrial and logistics/warehouse advice to landlords, developers and occupiers, with significant assignments including SEGRO.


JLL had an ‘outstanding’ 2014 as the UK industrial investment market reached an all-time high – with the Heathrow/Western Corridor team completing on 3.1 million sq ft of deals in 142 separate transactions. JLL deals included the headline Rockwell Collins design-and-build at Winnersh Triangle. Interestingly, at last year’s awards, following its double-digit growth in fee revenue during 2013, JLL had predicted that 2014 industrial property demand would continue to surge owing to strengthening investor activity.


Lambert Smith Hampton’s network of UK offices includes Reading, Oxford, Maidenhead and Guildford and the firm, by deal volume, is the UK’s most active industrial and logistics property agent. Its Thames Valley 2014 deal list included the headline £75m Reading Gateway scheme, and the letting of 300,000 sq ft at Heyford Park, Oxfordshire.


Andy Jansons (pictured right), owner of sponsors Jansons, the property investors and developers, was welcomed to the stage to announce the winner. The traditional award-


winner’s envelope revealed the name of . . . Cushman & Wakefield.


Afterwards, Karen Thomas (pictured centre), Cushman & Wakefield partner for national logistics and industrial, said: “I think this award is an endorsement of the importance that we put on the region, a reflection on the hard work that my team has put in to promote the benefits of being located within the Thames Valley, and it affirms the fact that we have put an office in the Thames Valley.


“The Thames Valley is a strategically important location in many respects and from the logistics point of view I think that’s growing. The evolution of e-commerce and the convenience sector is driving more people to look at the area and its attractions for a more diverse occupier base.


“Logistics has historically been about very big boxes in central England locations, but life has changed, the world has moved on. The Thames Valley is well placed to respond to that change because of the strengths of its population and the numbers of people that need to be served in this area, which is all playing to the evolving market.


So, Cushman & Wakefield is assisting and advising the leading edge of that changing market, and finding fresh solutions for its clients? “Absolutely.”
