GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL

24th-28th June Worthy Farm, Pilton

Glastonbury continues to be the best festival in the world ever and I’ll fight you if you say otherwise. Te first time I went I was 18 and it BLEW MY TINY TEENAGE MIND. With the hugest line up in the most beautiful of environments, it’s surely the festival to end all festivals. And this year’s headliners are mind- blowingly epic; Kanye West (will be interesting to see what reaction he gets), Te Who and Foo Fighters. With like a billion stages and tents and fields going on, you’ll spend a lot of time hiking between places, but will equally be beautifully distracted on the way by all the magical wonders that Glastonbury Festival holds. Some amazing names on the line up this year as always, including the returning Super Furry Animals who are sure to draw a huge crowd, and Te Fall amongst hundreds of other acts, known and unknown. Personally I’m very much looking forward to enjoying a sing along to Lionel Rich Tea on Sunday afternoon from my sofa with the red button Lovely job Michael and Emily.

CAMBRIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL

30th July – 2nd Aug Cherry Hinton Hall, Cambs

Cambridge folk festival used to be a bit of a hippie hang-out but no more, people! Now that folk is proper ‘in’ again, there may still be a high percentage of beards and beads there but perhaps a better and more varied line up. Alongside classic folk acts like Joan Baez and Joan Armatrading there are artists who are bang up to date like Passenger, who wowed the crowds at UEA last year and Frank Turner, probably the nicest man in music. So there will be plenty for all generations to discover. Something not to miss will be Wilko Johnson’s set; he’s now cancer-free after having been given just months to live a couple years back. Also don’t miss Scottish brothers Te Proclaimers who’ll no doubt have a brilliant sing-a-long with the crowd to 500 Miles and Letter From America. As well as all the live music, other larks are to be had; there’s a Young Musician competition and activities for kids including face painting and instrument making. It’s not far to drive and should be a chilled and friendly place to spend a musical weekend; it’s from a Tursday to a Sunday so even more bang for your buck!
